We had heard stories of our (tiny) high school being haunted, but we didn't believe them, having never experienced anything for ourselves.

Amy was in the bathroom when I heard what sounded like a crowd cheering and the rumble of feet on the gym floor above, pretty much what it sounded like downstairs when a basketball game was in progress. When Amy came out of the bathroom, I asked if she had heard the noise and she said she did, so we walked upstairs to see what was going on. When we entered the gym, it was completely empty and silent. We searched the hallways, even checked the boys' locker room, but we could find no one.

We mentioned it to some of our friends, also basketball players, and supposedly this event happens from time to time, going back to the 1970's.Shalena @ Writer Quirkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14002148442431475216noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5328014776473730528.post-85957441996637567042010-06-05T23:46:14.723-04:002010-06-05T23:46:14.723-04:00This book sounds great.
And here's my story.....This book sounds great.

And here's my story...

I was around six or seven. The three other people that were at my house were all in the living room, while I headed down the dark hall towards the bathroom. Bad idea. It was at night and the only light was coming from the kitchen and living. As I turned by one corner I saw the back view of a feminine figure, though it appeared to have short hair. It was also all in light,so no clothes, etc. could be seen. Mostly like an outline or something. Needless to say I ran out of there screaming bloody murder, but now looking back on that maybe I was having a vivid dream...though I feel like it was my aunt. She passed when I was toddler, but I've been told she was extremely attached to me since, she refused to have children of her own due to her having a terminal illness. Strangely enough, she did have short hair.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5328014776473730528.post-84024689259220980582010-06-05T17:36:49.714-04:002010-06-05T17:36:49.714-04:00My mother's friend swears she saw a ghost in o...My mother's friend swears she saw a ghost in our house one night. The creepiest yhing to happen to me is sometimes things randomly fall off the counters at night. But I mostly blame the cat for that. I had a weird feeling, like my grandmother (who was alive) was telling me something. In English. She doesn't speak English. Only Finnish. She told me I was going to have a baby girl. I had two boys (one was only 7 months old) and we weren't planning to have any more. I looked at my alarm clock: 11:20 pm.

The next day, my mom phoned to tell me my grandmother died the day before at 11:20 pm.

Naturally, I rushed to the pharmacy and bought a pregnancy test. Whew! Negative.

Three months later, my husband and I apparently had a oops! moment. I was pregnant . . . with a girl.

And yes, that was a true story. Who doesn't like a good ghost story, right?

Except, I can't actually think of any. I can come up with some pretty good alien experiences, though. Does that count? They're kind of ghostlike. Sorta. Oh wait, I've got one. When I was a kid, I used to play at this one house that had been abandoned halfway through its construction. This house was said to be haunted by the owner who died before he finished paying for it (hence, the abrupt stop to construction). Well, next to the house, there was a lake that was beautiful, except it was filled with alligators. But I was a major daredevil, and one day, I was very angry with my friends (can't remember why--some ordeal over a kissing rock, I think), and I took off and said, "I'm going to swim in the lake. If I die, it's all your fault." Of course, no one actually came after me because those turkeys didn't believe I'd do it. When I got to the lake, there was this alligator coming up to the edge of the water. I froze and got all wide-eyed and just about died. I thought for sure, I'd be food. But then some blue light shined right on top of the alligator and the thing flipped around and dived back into the water. Freaky, huh?

P.S. The blue light never happened, and I never actually saw the alligator. The end.

P.P.S. You won my contest.Carolina M. I could keep you hear a...Oh, I love ghost stories! I could keep you hear all day telling you the family lore. But I'll stick with one that happened TO me and not my fam.

Hubs, daughterling & I moved back to Iowa in 1998. We bought a house shortly thereafter. An unassuming 60's ranch. Almost right away we would hear voices in the middle of the night. They were muffled like a radio in another room. You can hear it, but can't understand anything. We chalked it up to noisy neighbors. Then we heard them at 3 a.m. in January in the middle of a cold snap (thirty below...brrr). What we were hearing couldn't be the neighbors.

We heard footsteps, and sometimes I would hear horse hooves clomping on the brick street on the north side of our house.

No biggie. Not in my family anyway.

Things began disappearing. Mostly little stuff, again no big deal.

Every time my husband would sleep on the couch a woman would wake him up.

I saw a woman standing in the doorway of our bedroom mostly silhouette, wearing a long turn-of-the century dress.

One night when daughterling was at Grandma's (90 miles away) hubs and I both woke up when we heard a child crying "Daddy!" from her bedroom. We both ran in there, THEN remembered daughter wasn't home.

But the thing that freaks my sister (#1) out (who could tell you stories to keep you up at night) is that I had a little girl (about 4) who would climb into bed with me at night while my husband was at work. At first I thought it was my daughter, but every time I woke up the spot next to me was empty.

I saw her once, long flowing blond hair racing down my hallway.

My sister (#2), who has a gift for this sort of thing, came to visit once and told me there was a woman and two children - boy and a girl - and that she had lived on the spot back when it was a farm. Something about an evil male relative trying to swindle her out of the farm she struggled to run herself.

Whew...sorry it was so long. As you would expect, there wasn't much to do in such a small town, but I had a few friends in town and my grandparents lived next to an abandoned lot of old houses, so we ended up spending most days creeping around the houses, trying doors and peeking in windows. And when I say old houses, I mean from the early 1900's, with wrap around porches and elaborate wood work. They were all filled with stuff, like storage spaces, but many of the windows had curtains so it was hard to see inside. One day my friend and I were rambling around the houses like we always did, and we walked past one of the houses in the back of the lot that had an especially creepy vibe because of the state of disrepair it sat in. I glanced at the front windows in passing and saw a flash of white, a bit of a lace dress and a face. When I looked back there was nothing, and the curtains were completely still. But I would have sworn I saw a young girl in a white lace dress, just standing there, watching us. I didn't believe in ghosts and I don't know that I do now, but I have no real explanation for what I saw that day. Gave me the willies.JEMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04043891292719086478noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5328014776473730528.post-9509060069271866062010-06-03T12:18:51.135-04:002010-06-03T12:18:51.135-04:00This sounds like my type of book!! Okay. Here...This sounds like my type of book!! Okay. Here's my TRUE ghost story:

When my son was a newborn I was feeding him constantly at night (no surprise there I know). He had one of those toy pads you put on the floor with the arc of dangling toys that hangs down and he cooed up at. Well, I was feeding him on the couch in the early AM hours and started to doze off. All of a sudden - and mind you there was no breeze, no open windows, no air conditioner that just kicked on or anything - the toys on the playground started swinging HARD and jingling. Well, I certainly woke up fast enough. I wonder though if it was a ghost or guardian angel since it woke me up while holding my baby. :) So there. That's my weird story.Lisa Gail Greenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03648323153868702165noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5328014776473730528.post-5204823132200739432010-06-03T12:02:13.651-04:002010-06-03T12:02:13.651-04:00Is it me or does that chick on the cover look a lo...Is it me or does that chick on the cover look a lot like Kristi Swanson from the original Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie?

My ghost story.

For many nights in a row we were awakened in the night by a deep voice, very faint, but maniacal sounding. We could not make out what it said and when it didn’t repeat, we would drift back off to sleep, only to be disturbed again the next night by the same voice.

We determined that it was coming from my son’s room and at first suspected he may be talking in his sleep. We moved him in with us and later that night was awakened by the same voice. I rushed in and jerked open his closet door. I would not let fear stop me from purging his room of an evil presence. I’d watched enough horror movies to know what to do. Confrontation is the only way.

His closet was empty. Empty of anything evil anyway, instead it was filled to overflowing with toys of every shape and size. I heard clearly that deep, grating voice and now I could make out a few words.

“Mooorphin….”

I dug in his toy chest where the sound seemed to be coming from and what did I find?

An old Power Ranger action figure staring up at me and as I was about to pick it up, it said these words…

“It’sss Mooorphin Timmmme.”

The sound mechanism had wound down from age and wear.
