The Liar Society Cover Revealed (Um, sort of...)

One of the things we were most excited about when we found out THE LIAR SOCIETY was going to be published was the fact that we were going to get a book cover. I mean, is there anything more thrilling for an author than a team of amazing publishing professionals creating a gorgeous visual representation of your book? Um, the correct answer here is, "Hells to the no."

We figured the only thing cooler than going through the whole book cover process ourselves would be going through the whole book cover process with our friends and future readers. So without further ado we're announcing The Liar Society (Under)Cover Contest.

THE LIAR SOCIETY has an extra-special ARC cover. If you're cool like Lisa*, you can use your smart phone to scan the barcode at the bottom of the book, which will take you to a contest on our website where we'll we'll be posting comps for the final cover of THE LIAR SOCIETY over the next month or so.

The covers that we've posted today are still pretty rough (and we have it on good authority that there's a kick ass Kate-centric photo shoot happening in the not-so-distant future), but your votes will dictate how they design the final cover. And then once we get our next round of comps, we'll post those and put 'em to a vote and we'll just keep on posting until we've got our final cover.  It's sort of like a Choose Your Own Adventure book, only with book covers. You guys get to decide the fate of Kate Lowry and the gang.

And we couldn't have a contest without some epic prizes so everyone who votes will automatically be entered to win LiLa's Favorite Books/2011 ARCs prize pack including:

We have very strong feelings about these first two designs. And if you know us at all, you'll know which one we love. Are you dying of curiosity yet? Visit The Liar Society site to see the covers, cast your vote and enter the contest. Can't wait to hear what you guys think!

And remember that this is only the beginning of the journey. Buckle up and help us pick the PERFECT cover!

XOXO,
L&L

*If you're still using a Samsung the size of a pack of cigarettes like Laura, you can access the website using your computer.

I'm not sure about either of these first two options. I'm mean they're not bad, but I would have to read the book to know whether that punky looking Kate would work or not. I'd always pictured her as a bit more preppy.

Anyway, this is fun, thanks ladies!

I agree with Matt, but I ended up voting for #1 because--from what I've heard about Kate--she doesn't sound very punk. Cover #2 reminds me of Sarah Raasch! Cute!

Heading over to check them out!! :)

I went with #1 for the cover choice, though I'm with Matt, I'm not exactly feeling either of them. I think the one you have on your blog today is actually something I'd pick up just to check out rather than the others!

Good luck with the hunt though!

This is perfect!! I posted your interview, today, on Writers' Ally. Heading over to check out your site.

What a tough decision, I like both of them. I think I'm leaning more toward number one though.

Knowing little about the book, I picked the second cover because that's the one that would jump out at me in a store. It's something that will catch the eyes of browsers and make them pick up a copy.

Going to check out the site. How exciting! Hope you gals are well.

I picture her as Number 1 and I like the emphasis on the pearls :)

Cool contest!!!!

*runs off to check out covers*

I love cover #1! But I also like the ARC cover a lot. I have a thing for pink and yellow (it looked greated on The Duff cover).

I was excited about the ARC cover, and then I got to vote on the REAL book cover to win books? SQUEE.

I love the ARC cover! And how fun is it to see the other two....and there will be more!!!

Wow!

Have to say that I adore your website. It's just awesome. I really want to hear the "Van down by the river" motivational speech!!!

hahahahahahaha.

I am so proud of you girls.

Cover #1 has the pearls...and that's why I voted for it!

Lydia Sharp said...

Wow. That's a no-brainer. I vote #1.

Although her boots are quite awesome, #2 looks almost... generic.

Lacey J Edwards said...

I actually like the ARC cover better than either of the options they've given. I personally don't care for faces on book covers.

#2 looks a little more fun, but #1 has more of a preppy, society girl feel to it. Tough choices!

Claire Dawn said...

Ooh, sounds exciting!

Kelly Polark said...

Very cool contest!
I chose #1 because of the pearls and close up.

Katie Anderson said...

I still say the ARC is awesome. And the website is UBER AWESOME. Seriously... Your website is like my new favorite.

But I agree with Matt. I don't think Kate is punk, right?

Casey McCormick said...

I love the ARC cover best. What can I say, it's the colors and type! But I vote for #1!

Adriana said...

Book covers are always so exciting! I really like the colors used on the ARC, but my vote went to cover 1. Cover 2 reminds me of Hit-Girl from Kick Ass.

Jackee said...

How exciting! Off to give my opinion.

And it looks like the universe came through for you two--you're past 1k followers now. Hooray! Congrats, ladies. :o)

This is so fun! I'm very excited to read Liar Society!

Cool contest! Can't wait to see how the cover evolves. :)

Colene Murphy said...

Awesome contest!! Congrats on your covers! That does seem like the best part.

I'm digging the ARC cover the most - but I voted for Number 1 because she's looking over her shoulder. To me neither cover screamed at me - I couldn't tell what the book was about. Love the font of the ARC too!

Sara B. Larson said...

How fun! I will go check out the other covers right now. :)

Oo-oo-ooh! I've got a super-cool new windows phone but I'm a techno-moron and can barely answer it, so I'll have to head over to your website now. Happy Monday! - Stasia

Steph said...

#1, for sure! Love the pearls! Although, truth-be-told, I love the cover of the ARC above the best. Also, best.tagline.EVER! Congrats to you, both! :)

Such a cool idea. Hopping over there to vote NOW! :)

Kristen Torres-Toro said...

That would be me too, Laura!

So excited for y'all and can't wait to see the whole process!

ali cross said...

Yep, I'm with Matt, too. I liked #1 for what I *think* Kate is like, but I loved the punky girl on #2.

So yeah, I voted for #1!

Fun stuff!

(and holy brown cows i want to win that prize pack soooooo bad)

Marsha Sigman said...

I voted for #2 because I just wanted to be a rebel.lol

And I couldn't get over how awesome those boots were with that tie.

Tere Kirkland said...

Love the pearls on the first one!!

I haven't read the manuscript, but I feel like Nancy Drew would like #1 better. ;)

K. M. Walton said...

I love the ARC cover too!! And I voted for cover #1 - she looks like a good Kate and the pearls are much more prominent.

Very exciting times!!!

Janet Johnson said...

Yeah, I guess I'm like Laura with the phone, but what a great idea! Can't wait to see the prospects. :)

A Canadian Girl said...

Checked out the covers and I feel like neither really seems to speak to me. I went with two though because the girl kinda looks like she's thinking about something and is wearing a uniform. Plus, I want those boots!

throuthehaze said...

I voted for #2 because I like the placement of everthing and the pose. I thought #1 looked too much like so many other book covers I've seen.

Carolina M. Valdez Schneider said...

Oh, super promo idea. I shall go vote. Looking forward to that kick ass Kate-centric cover. I'm hoping she'll be wearing something like Kate Beckinsale in Underworld, except, you know, a little more prep schooly. So kick ass.

Unknown said...

How fun! Just went and voted... can't wait to see as more are unfurled! Love this idea, definitely gets me even more interested in getting my hands on your book (even though I already was!).

Shannon O'Donnell said...

I just voted! What a fun idea, ladies. :-)

Gonna go vote now!

And yes, like Laura, I am still using a Samsung the size of a pack of cigarettes :P

Don't call this a comeback
