Random Thoughts on a Thursday

Did you love PERFECT CHEMISTRY by Simone Elkeles as much as we did? Um, then you need to buy RULES OF ATTRACTION. Now. Simone's books are just as much fun as her book trailers and the romance is HOT. You can thank us later.

In need of a moment of zen? Just listen. Seriously.

Remuneration for SAT words in your manuscript. Last night at YA book club, one of our 6th graders shared a surefire way to get kids (well, at least kids at her school) to read our book. Apparently one of her teachers gives extra credit points to students who find SAT words in the books they read. Her idea for us? Insert as many SAT words into our manuscript as possible--she even offered to bring us a list next meeting. When you read, "Kate became very acerbic toward her acquaintances, but in the end acquiesced and came to a mutual accord" you'll know why.

Tax day blows. But at least you can get caffeinated for free.

We love Tahereh for loads of reasons, but right now we love her most for introducing us to Stuff White People Like. Hilarious. And true. I mean, we're white and we happen to LOVE  Conan O'Brien, picking our own fruit and (most importantly) hating people who wear Ed Hardy.

What's your random thought this Thursday? Share it with the world (er...the people who read this blog) in the comments.

I read Rules of Attraction and adored it! While it was no Perfect Chemistry it was a hot, romantic read all on its own :)

I'm a fan (or group member or whatever it is) on Facebook of a little thing called "Thanks to Ed Hardy and Affliction, I now know a douchebag when I see him."

I can't remember if that's the exact title but it's something like that and the photos are hilarious.

Hey wait! How is it that everyone's read Rules of Attraction before me!!!!! I mean, sure I have wait until next month because it's coming with my big order of books, one which doesn't come out until May 18th. But really. How are you doing it?

Okay, there's my rambling thoughts. *goes off to watch the book trailer for like the thousandth time*

Don't you know better by now than to ask me what my random thoughts are, ladies? You really should, y'know. But, since you asked... *sigh*

1. Ewoks aren't as cute as everyone thinks they are.
2. SAT is one letter away from being the past tense of something nobody likes to talk about but everyone does.
8. Speaking of which, why on earth would William Shatner abbreviate his last name like that? Why?
22. I also love Conan O'Brien. This must mean I'm white. I don't love him in a creepy way, though. I mean, I love redheads, but only redheaded women. I'm Scottish. I'm supposed to be that way.

I'm stopping now. Bye! *waves* *strolls nonchalantly away*

Random thought - my sophomores need to pay more attention to the movie Julius Caesar. They are far too chatty and unappreciative of the greatness that is Caesar! :-)

Checking out all these links...

The SAT words in your manuscript? Brilliant, really. Although, I have a sinking feeling that I am not smarter than a 6th grader and probably wouldn't make it past page one.

I really feel like the hatred of Ed Hardy wearers transcends all cultural bounds. (Can I get points for using transcends? I'm 99% sure that's an SAT word)

If you enjoy hilarity, check out this blog I stumbled (not stumbld) across today: http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/

Literally the funniest thing I've seen in at least six months, possibly six years. I have a long memory.

Sadly my random thoughts are all centered around the theme of my life at the moment: revision sucks!!!!!

BUT, I'm almost done with the two chapters that got the most notes (like...half the email of doom was about those chapters, they were definitely the epic fail of my book) so I'm hoping it'll get easier from here. Otherwise--if you hear the sound of hysterical freaking out coming from the general direction of So Cal--you'll know the source. :)

I love the idea of using SAT words! Send me the list, okay? I so want sentences like that in my books! Ha ha ha!

My friend showed me Things White People Like a while back. It's pretty amusing. While browsing through it, my friend was like, "I like all these things!" She is Asian.

Random thought: I really wish one of the county libraries would buy the last book in a series I've been reading, so that I can request it. I'd buy it, but I'm waiting for an epic box set to be released since I don't have any of the books.

Random Thought: I wish I had there was such a thing as a coffee i.v... I would walk around with it all day long.

i haven't read either of those books yet. and whenever i see 'rules of attraction' i think of the movie with james van der beek and shannyn sossamon (it's a weird one). it'd be nice to have a new association.

i have a formatting question, though. do you guys use italics for thoughts (or other italicized things) or do you underline? b/c i was taught to underline by my novel writing prof, but it seems that that's out of vogue, and possibly has been since typewriters...

You mean that's not natural? Crap. I already write like that. In fact, I talk like that.

Oh My Gosh!! My main character steals her son's SAT book and tries to scatter the words in her otherwise very poor vocabulary....and ACQUIESCE is one of the words!!!

Totally true story!!

Random thought? I have 6 cakes, an apple pie, 8 pounds of strawberries and 2 pounds of melting chocolate, chocolate covered almonds and 13 bottles of champagne on my dining room table waiting for Saturday's books signing party... how long until I break and sneak some?
