Cold Feet

*
In a little over a month, the Li of the LiLa is going to be out of commission for a few hours days weeks. Lisa deserves a proper maternity leave and while her husband has threatened to hide her computer for 6 weeks, I've sat back and nodded, encouraging her to take her time. But inside I'm a freaking wreck.

Ever since we were little, Lisa has been my voice and this blog is no exception. Lisa couldn't wait to begin blogging after we started writing while I had never heard of a blog in my entire life. I love editing her posts and chiming in on posts of my own when I have something especially interesting to say. But 6 weeks of interesting? Wowsers.

Editorial note from Lisa: For the record, I fully intend on smuggling my laptop into the delivery room with me. Yes, I realize this might indeed lead to the destruction of my marriage, but I believe wholeheartedly in drugs, so it's not like I'll be doing Lamaze breathing or anything. Also, goal #1 as soon as I get home from the hospital is to figure out how to feed the baby and blog at the same time. Yeah, I like to set the bar high as far as motherhood goes. 6-weeks without a computer? I think not.

But you should know, dear readers and Lisa (because I know you're just as afraid as I am that when you return we'll have lost 500 followers or something), I have been brainstorming some extra-special posts to use while Lisa is laid up. I may be forced to dust off my celebrity files and bring back the tried and true Us Weekly poems. Maybe even share a few of my own gems from back in the day. But rest assured, the blog will go on.

Even if I have to feature sad, one-sided Skype conversations begging Lisa's husband to unearth her computer.

*Yes, that's a single blue tear rolling down my cheek. It's not aimed at you future niece or nephew. Don't take it personally, I'm just scared. End of story.

Lisa's husband expects her to stop blogging for something as routine as giving birth? Where does the man find his nerve?

Also, don't worry Laura, you'll do wonderfully.

I'm scared too. Not about your posts but about Lisa going postal. I mean a man cannot just take away one's drugs that easily. Blogging is addictive and her addictive personality is coming to come back with a vengeance.

I'd say bloggers is something you won't lose, but Lisa's husband, no that is who should be afraid.

PS I thought you'd like to know I revamped my blog and your background inspired it :)

You'll do just fine on your own. Lisa 'says' she wants her computer but as soon as she gets that little baby home, she'll be oozing Mommy-love and not even care about what's going on in blogland.

Well, for a little while anyway. I'll give it 8 weeks.

You'll be just fine. Promise.

Laura, you'll do just fine! I am excited to think what kinds of terrific insights will bubble to the surface when the Lone Roecker has control of the blog.

(Lisa, no biggie. If I was able balance the newly released HP and the Goblet of Fire on a nursing pillow, then you can balance a laptop. I used a Boppy, but that was 10 years ago. They may have invented a laptop-docking nursing pillow-interface by now.)

Laura, you will do amazing things! Think of this as a time of growth...yeah, I know. Growing sucks.

And Lisa, best of luck with the delivery of your little bundle. Take your time off and cherish it. So excited for you.

Oh me oh my, our little Laura is going solo :)

You will do fabulously, my dear. And if it makes you feel better, the Belles will do a vlog for you one day with baby advice or something.

Did Lisa's other babies come early? You might have to get started before you know it!

LOL. I'm sure you're just as interesting! I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Are you a writer? Then you MUST enter this CONTEST!

You can do this, Lisa. I played Apples to Apples during labor. And I WON, damnit.

Something tells me they let me win. Something else tells me this was a very smart thing to do. :)

You can do it!

Don't worry. We will all be here for you.

Laura-you'll be awesome! Lisa-best wishes and may your delivery be quick and easy. :)

Drug/baby induced blogging? YES PLEASE!

Seriously, enjoy the break. (Both of you.) The blog, followers, and general interweb crazy will all be around when you get back. If you do lose followers, we'll hunt them down and spam their blogs with Nike and Viagra ads, cause that's what fans do.

Best of luck on the delivery! (Makes it sound like you're getting a package from UPS, doesn't it?)

Ha, the photo is hilarious, not really sad, because you guys will find a way. I do not fear for the intrepid Roecker sisters. Lots of good wishes rocketing your way.

You both need a good rest. Congrats Lisa! And Laura, you'll be spectacular.

I love that it takes a birthing to detach Lisa from the computer. Laura, you have 2345679654 people here online who will try to be surrogate sisters during the break. I'm sure a few would be happy to even arm wrestle with you!

Awww, Laura, you'll be super fine!!! No one's going to leave this awesome blog, so don't worry!

You can do this, Laura! Come on...this is your chance to unload all your opinions. Let it out, girl.

Lisa, get one of those sling thingys for the baby to free your hands...six weeks without you is gonna make me nuts...not to mention Laura.

Drugs all the way! Go Lisa! :)

Dude, Laura, you'll be fine! FINE, I say. No worries. You could simply say, "It's raining today." and get a bajillion comments about the weather. No joke.

Mega-congrats to Lisa!! And Laura, you'll be fantastic! The both of you are amazing - you'll be able to make it just fine. :)

So, being a poor sisterless gal, I've sat in quiet envy before your twined magnificence. Laura, you will channel your inner Lisa, we all know. And Lisa, just put the finishing polishes on that WIP, m'kay?

Creepy Query Girl said...

congrats Lisa! Hope its a quick and easy delivery and that your laptop cord doesn't come unplugged!

Paul Greci said...

This blog will keep being awesome. Like Elana said, you could talk about the weather and the comments would flood in.

Jemi Fraser said...

Nothing to worry about at all Laura!! You'll be more than fine - we all love you! Relax :)

If my husband took my computer away for six weeks, he'd quickly reconsider it after about two days. Guaranteed. :P

Anyway, you'll be fine during the break, I'm sure of it!

Krispy said...

Laura, we believe in you! You'll be fine!

Lisa, congrats again! And do take it a little easy?

Shelli (srjohannes) said...

laura - you'll do fine. Just look yourself in the mirror and say:

"Im funny, Im smart and damn it - I like me."

If you need help on a post - call me :) I can be really funny too (no really I swear I can!)

Laura: You will be AWESOME. I know you're worried, but I'm not.

I do however, have no doubt Lisa will not last the 6 weeks. I think 6 hours is going to be a stretch. Her husband is going to have to find a good solid safe to keep that laptop in if he wants to keep her away. :)

Sara B. Larson said...

I'm not worried at all. I'm sure that after having just given BIRTH to his new CHILD Lisa will win whatever arguments she wants with her husband about that computer. (Or anything else for that matter.) And if by chance the baby just happens to capture her attention enough to induce her to hand over the computer for hours, or days, or even (gasp) weeks, you will do great Laura! I agree with Elana. You could blog about the weather and everyone will still love you. Good luck to both of you on these upcoming (completely equal) growing experiences. Because taking over the LiLa blog solo for 6 weeks is totally comparable to giving birth to a child, right? ha ha, you know I'm kidding Lisa. Mostly.

If all else fails, YOU could try the lamaze breathing, Laura... or the drugs. Take some percocet and then see what comes out. That could be lots of fun! ;)

No worries. We'll still hang around and I'm sure you aren't giving yourself enough credit.

ROFL Laura. Personally, I'm totally jonesing for the US Weekly poems. Whip 'em out, baby!

And speaking of babies, Happy Delivering Lisa!

Lori W. said...

I know it's not right, but I think of you two as one super-person, so it'll be interesting to get to know Laura solo. Interesting = good and add me to the list of followers who have faith in you, Laura.

Lisa: I hope you rest. I'm getting tired just thinking about those days with a newborn. But, I'm sure you'll find you'll find the humor in them and get lots of writing material.

Natalie Aguirre said...

Don't worry. We're all your friends so it'll be fine whatever you do.

Lisa, enjoy your time with your baby. It is such a special time.

Christina Lee said...

Yeah Laura, spread your wings, baby! And don't worry, Lisa won't last very long ;--)

Mary Aalgaard said...

Congrats on New Baby. Take all the time you need. They grow up so fast!

Vicki Rocho said...

You'll do fine. We're an easy crowd!

Kimberley Griffiths Little said...

So I'm dying to know .. . WHEN are you due???

And Laura, you will be FANTABULOUS!

Gail said...

Lisa- best wishes for a quick and easy delivery. But who are you kiddin that you'll be offline for 6 weeks, Not happening, girl Babies sleep and mommies grab the computer sometimes when that happens.

As for Miss Laura, why would you even think you'll be alone on the blog? Have you noticed how many followers you have? Any one of us (with a little notice) would create a post for you. But just to be safe, take Shelli J-Wells up on her offer. She is funny. Really. Honest.
And just remember, if you take apart Li and La, which half makes a lovely song???? (I don't think it's LiLiLiLi :-))

You guys would never lose followers. You're too amazing. Wishing you both the very best in the weeks to come.

Laura, Laura, Laura, now stop that. Just blog at night...after a cosmo...and all will be just fine.

Lisa, Lisa, Lisa, good vibes coming your way for a wonderful birth.

Dawn Kurtagich said...

I agree with K.M - blog after a cosmo, and add some M&Ms. Then you'd be on fire! No. Joke.
