WriteOnCon: The Vlog

As most of you know, we've been working on a top secret project with some writer-friends. Well today is the big reveal! So sit down, grab some Twizzlers and enjoy the show...

So, just to sum things up...

Conferences are expensive. Writers are poor. Now you have no excuse not to join Elana Johnson, Jamie Harrington, Shannon Messenger, Casey McCormick, and us (along with Jennifer Stayrook—our incredible web designer) for a FREE online kidlit writer’s conference!

Who? Any and all writers of YA
What? WriteOnCon, FREE Online Writer's Conference
When? August 10th-12th, 2010

Why? Because Steven Malk, Catherine Drayton, Michelle Andelman, Suzie Townsend, Mark McVeigh, Joanna Stampfel-Volpe, Kathleen Ortiz, Lindsay Eland, Dan Ehrehaft, Mandy Hubbard, Lindsey Leavitt, Josh Berk, Anica Rissi, Jodi Meadows and many, many more will be joining you.

To celebrate the conference launch and help spread the word, we've put together another contest. We're giving away your choice of a Query Letter Critique or a First Chapter Critique.

How to enter:

Follow our blog and fill out the contest form below by 11:59 pm PST on Saturday, June 19th

For Extra Entries:

+2 for tweeting about this contest

+3 for posting or linking this contest on your blog/website/facebook

+5 for posting the conference Countdown Widget on your blog or website

+1 for each of my co-organizer’s blogs or websites that you follow

We'll see you all on August 10th-12th. Brace yourselves...it's going to be EPIC!

I'm in!
Unless I'm in Disney those days. Family vacation is still in flux.

Even if I'm on vacay, I can still ignore my family in the evenings with my laptop -- just like at home!

I would SOOOO participate in a BIG WAY, but my MC's are usually in their 20's. (sometimes even age throughout a novel into their early 30's! *Gasp*)

Wahhhhh!! *pouts and whines and stomps foot*

Should I start a YA book TODAY, just so I can be part of the fun?

I totally will if I have to.

Damn that arm wrestle!

And, I want you to know I have a _serious_ craving for twizzlers. Say, they could be the official snack.

Thanks so much for doing this!

HAHAHAHAAA!!!!1!1!1!

Okay, er... first of all, why have you restricted it to under-18 MCs only? I'm thinking that was a personal slight. You were all thinking of me when you said that. Apparently Lisa is my only friend in the world. Plus, since she was totally rocking the indoor-sunglasses look (which, y'know, I do all the time so it's kind of a fellow-feeling thing going on now), I'm inclined to shun Laura, despite her superior arm-wrestling skillz.

And second of all... uh... hang on. I don't think I have a second. Yeah. I'm just grumpy that y'all shut me out.

Wait. I have an IDEA! What if I rewrote one of my stories so that the characters were 18 or under? Okay, that's it. I'm rewriting my bar fight story so that the MC is 17-1/2. But an old-looking 17-1/2 living somewhere in the boonies where the bouncers don't check IDs, like western PA or Cincinnati. Will that get me in on the conference?

*patiently awaits an answer*

This sounds like fun!

You rock. You really rock. And I wanna arm wrestle for Twizzlers. *Checks arms.* Never mind, I'll go buy my own bag.

Marina said...

Twizzlers leave me weak at the kneecaps, so I'm in! Great idea, too.

Julie Musil said...

I'm in! My next project will be a YA, and I have so many questions. I'll be joining your conference for sure. This is very generous of you! I tweeted, and will mention it in tomorrow's post. Thanks!

Crap, I LOVED the cat in the tree! Can't wait! :)

Yes, it was the cat that convinced me. That and the Twizzler- munching-wine-drinking-arm-wrestlers.

Awesome! I can't get the widget for some reason... seems to be thinking for a long time! Will add it when I can ;o) Love the vlog ;o)

I just had to rewatch this purely for your scene--you guys seriously need to vlog everyday. I just about died when Laura goes, "Homecoming Queen 99." AWESOME!!!!

Fabulous. I have tweeted, I follow everyone. I will write a blog on this AMAZING contest and conference and I will attempt to add the widget to my site(sometimes I lack talent when it comes to widgets).
Thanks,

Maribeth

Samantha said...

So, sadly, I'm a big fat liar. I filled out the form fully intending to post the countdown widget on my blog only to have it not work! Dang. While I still would like to be in the contest, you will have to deduct points for lying and general bad behavior. Great contest idea though - thanks! :)

Jennifer said...

So excited about this. It sounds awesome!!

I've tweeted about it, follow you all and have put this on my FB. Can't wait!!

Natalie Aguirre said...

I'm so excited. I put it on Facebook & posted it on the Michigan SCBWI e-mail list. Boy was that interesting. But I did make some new friends from it.

Carolina M. Valdez Schneider said...

This falls on my wedding anniversary and the weekend of our family reunion. But I will try very hard to be involved in this because you are awesome.

P.S. I love you.
