A Friday Funk

It's Friday and I'm in a nasty mood. TGIF? More like TGTWIFO (Thank God This Week Is Freaking OVER). Yeah, it's just been one of those weeks. But all is not lost. There were five things that made me happy this week:

1. Our review of SAVING CEECEE HONEYCUTT is featured on the front page of the Teen Fire Ning. What's that you say? You're not a member of Sourcebooks' Teen Fire Ning? Um...not to be rude or anything, but what are you waiting for? Our fabulous publisher has put together a killer social networking site for all of you YA lovers out there. Join us!

young adult,teen,fiction,Kaleb Nation,Bran Hambric,Joy Preble,Dreaming Anastasia

2. I read CATCHING FIRE. Yeah, I admit I've had the book sitting on my shelf forever. I knew I was going to love it and I knew I'd be sad when it ends knowing that I'll have to wait more than 6 months for the final book in the series. And the book did not disappoint. Suzanne Collins is a genius. Seriously.

3. I'm pretty sure Apple might have just saved the future of publishing. iBooks? Can Steve Jobs make reading cool again? I think yes. Nerds across the world rejoice and start saving up for the (unfortunately named) iPad. But don't take our word for it, check out what the experts are saying.

4. The fabulous Melissa posted an interview with us on her blog. As if the interview wasn't exciting enough we got some of the nicest comments ever. Melissa has some great readers! Those comments were the highlight of my week. Seriously.

5. Twilight is finally on cable. That's right bitches Showtime is playing Twilight in HD and I've got it on my TiVo. You know what that means, right? Laura and I are having a Twilight party at my house. There will be Twizzlers, cheap white wine from Target and SPARKLES. I've also got Lifetime's The Pregnancy Pact cued up, so we could even make it a double feature. Maybe I can talk Laura into a sleepover next Wednesday...

Have a great weekend everyone!

Awesome! I watched The Pregnancy Pact the other day...it looked better in the trailer, but still entertaining and Lifetimey. Cant wait to hear your thoughts on Twilight.

Friday Funk must be in the air or something! Worst week EVER! A good dose of Twilight should cure those Friday Funks ;)

I am totally glad this week is over (and it is a semester break day for our school district!!!!) I don't know if there are enough exclamation points in the world to express my joy!!!

3. Seriously.

Donna Gambale said...

I was with you til Pregnancy Pact. Lifetime advertised the movie in the newspaper I work at and I cringed soooo badly. And Frankie, you too, really?

Hope next week is better for you!

Kimberly Franklin said...

Your party sounds like so much fun...can I come??? I'll bring a whole bucket of Twizzlers. : )

Have a great weekend!!

Also, thanks for commenting on my blog, you did literally one min after I changed my settings.

I have to have a themed blog schedule, otherwise I sit there and go as blank as the screen. I like that you fly by the seat of your pants in Lilaland, if I did that, you'd all get, "Um...it's Friday. Hi."

Christina Lee said...

Umm where was my invite to the TWI party? I am embarassed to admit that I watched that Pregnancy Pact movie--it was a Lifetime movie night for me--um, yeah :)
Off to click on some of your links! Oh and I, for one, am excited about the iPad, with wings :)

thanks for your comments on my post, ladies. I am enjoying reading about you as well as reading what you write. Very high energy fun!

Hope your weekend treats you better than your week...Though you did seem to be busy -- being in the spotlight!

I'll be over with my Skittles and Dr. Pepper for Pregnacy Pact--but I'm gonna skip Twilight. RPatz is no Edward. Not nearly sparkly enough. I WON'T WATCH IT. YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!!!

Anonymous said...

Since Showtime began running Twilight in HD I thinkI may have watched 3 times already!

Stephanie Thornton said...

Catching Fire would definitely put a smile on my face. I hope next week is much better for you!

Shannon O'Donnell said...

I knew this post was you, Lisa! :-)

I'm with you on the TGTWIFO thing. We've been trying to sell our house FOREVER and we have a showing this morning. Trying to have it perfect after three children have slept in beds and been readied for school = stress headache big-time! :)

Unknown said...

Sigh--this week definitely sucked for me too. Maybe because it's still January? It's time for something great to happen to make us all happy! I loved Catching Fire too. :)

Unknown said...

Twilight AND The Pregnancy Pact? Hmmm...the irony is killing me.

Tere Kirkland said...

OMG, I started watching Pregnancy Pact the other day because one of my friends worked local locations on it. I did not last more than thirty minutes. I was just so mad at how stupid those little girls were. And grateful I have no children because I'd be bringing back the chastity belt with a vengeance!

Ugh, and I can't even turn on Showtime these days without seeing a vapid Kristen Bell and a stoned-looking R Pattz staring at each other like idiots. Damn, now I have the Firday funk. ;)

Kelsey (Dominique) Ridge said...

I haven't seen Pregnancy Pact yet, but the very thought of it double featured with Twilight makes me chuckle.

Carolyn V. said...

Hey, I had a week like that last week. =)

Hooray for Twilight, things have got to get better!

Anonymous said...

Target sells wine out by you? WTF is wrong with New Jersey? It's just not civilized to deprive us of our right to buy laundry detergent and booze in the same location, dammit!

And oh, my friggin' stars and garters (I don't own any garters, by the way--that's just an expression), my wife watched The Pregnancy Pact this week, and since I was in the living room trying to blog and stuff I got to experience it in dribs and drabs between the songs on my iPod I was using to drown out the telly. I almost got extrogen poisoning.

Just FYI, ladies... NEVER EXPOSE MEN TO THE LIFETIME CHANNEL! I. AM. NOT. JOKING.

That Teen Fire site is really cool! Thanks for the link!

Dude, I feel your funk. In fact, I'm posting about it next week. I am grouchy. I need Uggs. Or chocolate. Or a gun. Or something.

(Sorry about your funk - and congrats on the positive press!)

Kristen Torres-Toro said...

Have a great weekend, Lila!

Kristy said...

Oh I love TGTWIFO! It's so much more appropriate! Especially for this week...

Sarah Wylie said...

OMG, you're in a funk too? I did *not* want to get out of bed this morning. By the way, did I ever tell you that your Pink Uggs inspired me to break and get my very first pair of Uggs? Well, they did.
I wear them all the time. Sarah is to Uggs in inappropriate settings as Lindsay is to leggings/no pants in all settings.

Happy Friday! (I knew you would love Catching Fire. I can't wait to hear what you think of Twilight!)

Mariah Irvin said...

I think the entire blogging world had a funk this week. At least I did.

I just read CATCHING FIRE a week ago, and I can't stop thinking about it.

Melissa (i swim for oceans) said...

Ohhhh The Pregnancy Pact haha that movie was....wow. Thanks for linking to my interview of you girls, and thank you again for participating! :)

Ok, people may hate me for this, but I think the iPad is so overrated. Yes, the eBook factor is cool, but the device doesn't utilize the eInk technology, which is essentially the only reason I'd ever consider reading on an any electronic device because of the eyestrain issue.

Also, the iPad looks like just a fancy tablet netbook to me. I could be wrong, but I don't think it's going to be the next iPhone or iPod. At least not this version of it.

Of course, I don't have an iPod or iPhone--I've got a standard mP3 player and phone that I actually use as, well, a phone. I don't even text all that much :P

Must be something in the bloggy air. This has not been my fave week eiher. But what a way to salvage it with Catching Fire, Twilight, and a Pregnancy Pact--um, yeah, don't actually do that last one. Doesn't seem very wise. But the movie looks great.

BTW, try dipping your twizzlers in some pinot grigio--yeah, I know, it's wine for losers (so says the French--SNOBS!), but secret yum. And while you're at it, have some spray cheese on Ritz. It's totally delish and way classy if you add an olive slice. Plus, you can squirt cheese in your mouth, and there's just nothing more fun than that. Man, I need to have my own Twilight party. I'm so jealous.

P.S. I hope next week goes better for you. Follow my instruction on the wine and cheese, and I'm pretty sure you'll be good to go.

You know, I saw Cee Cee Honeycutt in B&N and it wasn't in the YA section. It was on the best sellers shelf. With all adult fiction. Is it a cross over book?

Highlight of my week; Picking a six-year-old winner for Jordan's blog contest :)

*sigh* me in funk too

Jon Stewart had a skit on last night..or was it Colbert? Anyway, the unveiling of IPad...because 'TamPod' was already taken. I fell off my couch laughing. Yes, I am easy.

I watched Twilight on Showtime and it renewed my disappointment in casting and my anger at the changes! I do still love the book though.

I watched the Hannah Montana movie. Yes, yes I did. And I cried. Oh, yeah. You watch Billy Ray sing about his little girl and butterflies and see if you can handle it. I dare you. His mullet has power.

Krispy said...

My friends and I totally watched Pregnancy Pact when it was on, mostly because some of them were unaware this thing existed and were very WTF SRSLY?! upon hearing of it. So we had to watch the movie. It was kind of awful, but also rather LULZy, and yeah I really could not stand the stupidity of some of those girls. ARGH.

Parts of the Twilight movie make me LOL just thinking about them.

Anyway, hope your weekend is wondrous to make up for the week!

Hardygirl said...

Yes--the ipad looks totally cool, but what keeps it from just becoming another TV? I've already heard talk about moving book covers and moving illustrations within books . . . um, isn't that just like watching TV with subtitles??

Ah well. We shall see. I hope you're right--that it makes reading cooler than ever!!

Friday funk here today, too. Had to pick my children up early from school today (again!) because of a weather threat. Yes. It's raining and it might even get cold later. I'm thinking we need to quit being such weather wooses in the South. (Is that how you spell woose?)

Gail said...

Today has crappy weather in Atlanta too. I'm trying to stay out of the funkitude because I'm having professional head shot photos done tomorrow and I don't need any extra wrinkles on this face!!!!!

lexcade said...

it's about darn time you read catching fire! i knew you'd love it, tho. we'll have to start a countdown for the third book...

my week won't be over until next friday...

Jemi Fraser said...

The week was a looooong one here too.

I've been putting off Catching Fire for the very same reasons. One of these days I'll cave in & read it (in one sitting I'm sure!)

Bonnie said...

I signed up for the Teen Fire Ning group...cool! Congrats on having your review of Saving CeeCee Honeycutt (we met at the booksigning!) front and center.

I am reading Hunger Games now and am glad to ehar that Catching Fire did not disapoint. I will be reading that soon!

Have fun at your Twilight Party! I can't wait to see New Moon.

Conda Douglas said...

Sourcebooks Teen Fire Ning? I'm headed over there--might help my own Friday funk!

JESSJORDAN said...

Wooohooo for Twilight! You just wait. By the time you watch New Moon, you will be Team Jacob 4eva.

And yeah, I totally watched the Pregnancy Pact. Quality television at its finest!

So are you guys going to get an iPad??

#5 - You ladies are livin' large, aren't ya? I almost cried (laughing) when I read that you had Sparkles! You. Think. Of. Everything. Maybe you've missed your true calling as party planners. I can't think of a single party that *doesn't* need more Twizzlers and Target wine.

My five things for this week:

1. Caller ID. Those bitches be crazy.
2. Caffeine. Both lattes and Garnier caffeine-infused roller eyeball pen thingie that makes my puffiness not so puffy. And yes, I need caffeine for my innards and my face.
3. A compliment from my sister about my writing.
4. A compliment from a client about my wrinkles, as in, "Are you really 32?"
5. Sedatives for my hubby that lost four wisdom teeth. He has referred to his Vicodin as his vitamins and thankfully he is now sound asleep. Drooling blood on 500 count sheets, yes, but at least he isn't ordering any more jello and ice cream from the bedroom.

It was a suck week. Let's put it behind us, shall we?

Lori W. said...

Have a sparkly weekend!

Unknown said...

Even an old man like me got into Catching Fire! I love being transported to a completely new world, especially where a savvy cunning young lady can kick some serious butt. Just like my 3 girls.

Sharon K. Mayhew said...

Did someone say, "Team Jacob?" My teen seems to think there is something wrong with her mother being in "love" with Jacob. Talk about a great character. The underdog who turns hunk, but still has to compete with the "jock" (vampire) for the girl...There is so much more that can be said about Jacob...Okay...no one is allowed to tell on me, but...Jacob is HOT HOT HOT...

Now I'm going to weave a basket or something us old moms are supposed to do...

Katie Anderson said...

I'm sorry you had such week suck!!! I hope this weekend is better :-)

Jeannie Lin said...

I hope the Twilight marathon clears up the funk. I have to say, that Friday was a long time coming from where I'm sitting too. Huzzah for weekends!

Kim said...

Perfect ending to a crap week! Let me know how those movies are. I'm holding out to be the last person on earth to see Twilight. Glad I'm two closer now.

Unknown said...

Hey things can't be too bad, we have LOST to look forward to next week.

Christina Farley said...

Lots of fun going on here. The iPad is amazing isn't it?

Jackee said...

Yeah. It was a bad week here too. I'm just now getting around to reading all the cool blog posts I missed last week.

Chin up, it's a new one now!

Rebecca Knight said...

I have a raging Monday funk happening right now, which is why I'm reading your blog--to cheer myself up! ;)

Also, I thought I was alone in going iPad? Like... Max-i-Pad????? Did no one see this ahead of time?

I'm going to have to try reading the Twilight books.... The movie just didn't do it for me....

LOL - I saw that Twilight was on cable too! I have it on DVD, but just having it at my fingertips is so much easier... LOL A Twilight party sounds like fun!!

Yeah I want an iPad... the geek in me is really screaming!

Enjoy the movie ;o)
