A Conversation Between L&L: Our Deal With the Universe

Laura: Blog post tomorrow?

Lisa: Crap. I don't know. I'm eating ice cream. Can't this wait?

Laura: No. We need something. Come on...

Lisa: Fine, fine. Let me just put the Cookies and Cream away.

(5 minutes later)

Laura: Hello?? You're still eating aren't you?

Lisa: What? No. OK, fine, yeah I'm still eating. But I know what we can post about.

Laura: I'm on the edge of my seat.

Lisa: Three words for you: Deal With the Universe.

Laura: That's four words.

Lisa: "The" doesn't count. Whatever, stop being so mean. We can ask our blog friends about the deal we should make to get to 1,000 followers.

Laura: This is a terrible idea.

Lisa: Come on! We've got to give the people what they want. Maybe if it's something outrageous enough they'll help us get followers.

Laura: You're like some kind of twisted dictator. You know that, right?

Lisa: Yeah, and just imagine what I can do with 1,000 minions...er....followers.

Laura: This is exactly like that time Jackie Smith actively campaigned to get homecoming queen, you know that right?

Lisa: Yeah, but at least our friends get something out of it. They'll get to watch us make jackasses of ourselves.

Laura: Good point.

OK, guys this is your big chance. What would you like to see us do once we reach 1,000 followers? Sound off in the comments and we'll select a few finalists (and maybe add a few of our own) for you to vote on next week.

Have a fab weekend!

Tough one!! Liked the arm-wrestling venue. What about a full-out boxing match. You know, ring and all, where you could slug pies or maybe ice cream at each other. (I love cookies and cream, too. Way good.)Just make sure you get to 1,000 before winter. Brrr...LOL.

Okay ... you can't just give something away, that's too easy.

And I'm not going to say anything inappropriate - not even in a desperate attempt to be - yeah it wouldn't be funny anyway.

How about you have a break-dance off? Both wearing Zubaz, leg-warmers and gel bracelets?

Then you post the video. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help you gather followers.

Today's guest blogger is Rachel Alpine!

Hmm this is a tough one!!! I love books so a book giveaway could be fun! Or maybe a book swap type of thing...

I love Matthews break-dance idea, that's brilliant!!!

What about having some guest blog spots open?!

I don't know I'm probably not the best person to come up with ideas, lol!

Stina said...

LOL. I'm trying to come up with something for my blog, which would no doubt embarrass me, to convince Elana J to go to the LA SCBWI conference this summer. I'm failing at that, so obviously I'm not as creative as I had hoped. Which means I'm no use to you either. ;)

Btw, I need more book recommendations!!!!

Unknown said...

Something agenty. I always enter those.

Candyland said...

I'd like to third that: LILA DANCE OFF

Katie Anderson said...

You can't break dance without Ms. J.

Let me think.

I've got it!!!!!!!!!! You can take a road trip to Mississippi!!!!!!!! It will be EPIC :) It can be one of those, "We're gonna surprise one of our commenters" ideas. Like when you win the lottery and someone comes to your door with balloons. But the commenter will be predetermined - me and SF.

yeah. great idea.

P.S. Who won the other "epic" contest??? Who is the 4th Roecker sister? Inquiring minds wanna know!

Talli Roland said...

Hm... agenty is good. Dance-off is GREAT!

I also like Jen's idea of a guest post.

See, I have no ideas of my own but I'm easy to please!

Katie Anderson said...

Or you could always offer up some kind of thrilling guest spots. I like that too.

So the deal would be: "If you win our new contest, you get to be "QUEEN FOR A DAY" on our blog."

Then you'd tweet about your queen and Facebook about her/him and introduce her glowingly.

And she'd get lots of press which is why everyone will want to enter your contest.

awww.... that would be fun :)

Her Royal Highness.....

Jello wrestling.

Possibly a wing-eating contest.

Twizzler swordfight.

Ooh! You could offer to write a winner into your next novel. Y'know, like the snarky, yet soulful, intelligent, dramatically handsome love interest for your MC who's maybe a bit of a bad boy (he might even have tattoos), and yet secretly rescues kittens and reads Virginia Woolf. I'm not talking about me, of course--I don't rescue kittens.

Anyway... where was I?

Fear Factor, Roecker-style.

Roecker sister poetry jam. I'd even snap my fingers for you.

I like the Roecker road-trip idea too. Bring prosecco. And an RV (I have a very small house). And mozzerella sticks. Don't forget those.

It should be something to promote your book, like you could send out random emails to people and pretend you're dead and...wait - no. That really sucks.
I vote for the Spring 2011 road trip and a visit to northern Ontario. It'll be AWESOME!
note: bring bug jackets, bug spray and itch cream.

Bethany Elizabeth said...

I agree full-heartedly with the breakdance idea. :) And the guest spot idea. Or a competition to see which follower can eat the most ice cream in a limited amount of time. :D
Don't mind me, I just love excuses to eat ice cream.

Loretta Nyhan said...

I LOVE the "Dancing with the Roeckers" idea.

storyqueen said...

Like the dance-off idea...like dancing with the stars, but even more glamorous....and embarrassing.

Or, what about those inflatable sumo wrestling suits....The really big fat ones....

Or dancing in sumo suits....

Tere Kirkland said...

See which one of you can create the snazzier outfit-- out of Twizzlers.

;)

Tricia J. O'Brien said...

What Simon said. Can't top that.

Christina Lee said...

I'm with story queen -- the big fat sumo suits that Ellen uses on her show!!

Lydia Kang said...

Can you take all your followers to Paris for a group chat in a cafe?
No?
Damn.

*rubs hands together with an evil smile*

PERSONALLY...I think dancing, spandex, and bad 80's hair ALL need to be prominently featured in a vlog.

BUT--if that doesn't strike your fancy, I'd also love a Hilton sister's impersonation. And whoever plays Paris HAS to say "That's hot." :)

If I think of anything else I'll be back...

Corey Schwartz said...

In high school, I won "Who could eat the most ice cream in three minutes with no hands." You could try that?

Ha! Kidding. I like Katie's idea. You could fly out and visit the winner!

XiXi said...

BREAK DANCE.

:)

Roxy said...

The ideas above are so good, I think you should do a medley of all of them. You could reach at least 2,000 with that.

80's Breakin' Boogaloo!!

Laura S. said...

I'm jumping on the bandwagon and agreeing with the break dance idea! You could wear MC Hammer pants, ha! A dance-off to Beyonce's Single Ladies would be great, too. Or MJ's Thriller.

Can't wait to hear what you girlies decide!

Elana Johnson said...

I'm going to have to give this some serious thought. I'll email you...

Marsha Sigman said...

I say a dance off too, that's a great idea! Only break dancing is a little hard...I would be happy with any kind of dance off. But it has to be cool, like the Thriller dance.hahaha

Signed: The 4Th Roecker.

Stephanie Thornton said...

Hmmm... Even though the dance-off sounds hilarious, I'm going to say a Twizzler eating contest.

Maybe a combination of the two? :)

OK -
1) You 2 are commonly known as the Gorgeous Photogenic Rock Star Sisters...right? Come come now - no time to be modest...anyway, with parents like yours...
ALSO
2) It seems that a video vloggy thing is an ABSOLUTE MUST - almost everyone wants one - especially after the arm wrestle HIT...we are squealing for MORE...
IN ADDITION
3) People want you to dress up and dance...
SO

I suggest that you two top models dress up as top GUY models (yep - I said as MEN) and have a kind of Mr. Universe competition...judged by fun-loving agents and famous literary folk. WE - your MINIONS - can have a competition amongst our humble selves as to who the 'FAMOUS PANNEL' will judge the HUNKIEST GUY ROECKER BROTHER...come on...you have to admit it's different...I bet even OPRAH would put you on her show if you dared do it...!
You would CERTAINLY GAIN LOADS OF NEW FOLLOWERS - both male and female...

Kirsten Lesko said...

Ha ha! Love the idea. How about a compromise between Storyqueen & Icy Roses? Breakdancing while wearing sumo costumes.

Christina Farley said...

You two crack me up! I'm voting for the Twizzler sword fight.

erica m. chapman said...

LOL - awesome ideas! Let's see... yes to dance off, twizzler sword fight :o) can't wait to see what is chosen!

Annette Lyon said...

Do a lip sync to an ABBA song, preferably in the shiny Elvis-looking outfits that Meryl and friends wore in Mama Mia!

Amy Jo said...

I love your conversations! :) 1,000 followers? I bet you can do it sooner than you think!

Kristen Torres-Toro said...

These are great ideas. I can't wait to see which one wins. :0) Have a great weekend!

Roland D. Yeomans said...

A 1000 followers? Wow. But I know you can do it. What to do then? I'll be kind : quote every bit of intelligent, philosophical dialogue that was spoken in GILLIGAN'S ISLAND. See? It will be the sound of one hand clapping and no lips speaking.

Have a great weekend. And save me some of that ice cream, Roland

Jackee said...

I think you're on the right track--something like Jackass the Movie but writer style.

It will be sooner than you think. The Universe told me so!

Have a great weekend!

"Dancing with the Roeckers" great idea!
Have fun writing :)

It's going to be tough to beat the pure genius of LiLa arm wrestling. I still laugh when I think about it:) But I like the dance suggestion too. That or you could battle it out on Guitar Hero. The rules: one song, one champion.

Myrna Foster said...

There are already a lot of great ideas on here. My favorite involves Sumo wrestling suits, but watching you gals battle it out on Guitar Hero would also be entertaining. Maybe you could play Guitar Hero in wrestling suits?

If I think of anything better, I'll be back.

Ohhhhhhhh my goodness. The wheels are turning. Hmmmm.

Click.

Why, I have an idea. Oh yes, so very scar--err, beautiful.

I say, when you hit 1,000 followers, you and Laura must act out a scene from TWILIGHT. Dun dun dunnnnnnnnn. And you must, of course, film it. And then post it on your blog for the world to see. Of course.

This is of course, just a deman--err, suggestion.

That said, I have NO doubt you'll hit your 1,000. Looking forward to that video, ladies.

And Lisa, put down that ice cream. You're making me hungry. And all I have in my freezer are some tater tots, peas, and a ziploc bag of something I think are egg whites.

I like the above mentioned jello wresting match. You could do a pay per view too. Make a little cash and gain additional exposure.

Hey, if I knew the answer, don't you think I'd be doing it ;)

Honestly, I'm watching in awe and so amazed at how you ladies keep it so fresh over here. good work.

Who can stuff the most marshmallows in there mouth at once? The very thought makes my stomach turn... How about something more mysterious in keeping with your books? Bribe someone to set up a quick scavenger hunt or riddle and see who can figure it out first?

Can you find a charitable organization (like the Haven Foundation) that's for writers and make a donation? Just an idea... :D

Gail said...

Love the dance off idea, sumo wrestling suits would be hilarious BUT, I think it should be done at the summer SCBWI conference in LA and videotaped there. That way, your blog followers could run commentary or cheer you on because we'll be there too!!!
(You will be ther, won't you?)

Don't call this a comeback

So it’s been a minute. Or 10. Or truthfully more like 2,102,400. At least we think that’s how many minutes there are in 3 years, but let...
