Tell the Truth Tuesday...

It's only Tuesday and we're already feeling blah. Time for some good old fashioned truth telling...
  • I'm REALLY sad that 10 Things I Hate About You got cancelled. I'll miss all the snappy, completely unrealistic dialogue. And Patrick Verona's abs.
  • My 5-year-old thinks terms like "diaper head" are the epitome of hilarity and it sort of makes me want to staple his mouth shut. It's not the potty humor that bugs me, but it's just really not funny. I mean I can get on board with raunchy humor, but lame jokes? Annoying.
  • I've decided to begin freaking out about people actually reading our book. The idea is terrifying and exhilarating at the same exact time.
  • My patience is shot lately with my 2-year-old. Between bouts of screaming on the airplane this weekend, swatting at me throughout the day, running away when called at the post office and throwing herself on the ground in the grocery store, I feel like calling in sick.
  • I'm more than little excited for summer TV. Mad Men, True Blood, Friday Night Lights, Real Housewives of NJ. Who needs a social life when you've got cable television?
  • It's my turn to write and I've been staring at a blinking cursor for forty-five minutes.
  • I'm not sure if that's how you spell "cursor" and I'm too tired/lazy to look it up.
  • We have YA book club this Thursday at 7 PM at Joseph-Beth and we're discussing IF I STAY by Gayle Foreman. If you're anywhere close to the Cleveland area you MUST join us! We're so excited to meet writer friends in person and dish on a fabulous book.
Have at it in the comments. It's therapeutic.

I'm pretty sure that's how you spell cursor. :) Life sounds very stressful for you right now, I'm sorry! My advice: (unsolicitied)Chocolate makes everything just an ity bit better. :)
As far as truth goes...
My rooms a disaster and I like it that way
My friend just had knee surgery and I want to take her out to coffee, but there's that whole Atlantic Ocean thing in the way.
I'm madly in love with Milana cookies.
And...
Nothing has the power to cheer me up as quickly as a music box. :)

Definitely looking forward to True Blood. That show is so much fun!

I'm also quite glad my daughters are past those stages. The youngest is eight and she's a little angel (most of the time).

I do have a three year old nephew who comes around a lot and for some reason when he acts up like that I can deal. Maybe because he's not mine?

His favorite thing is to call people meaniacs. I guess that's like a meany and a maniac all rolled into one. I think he made it up.

I'm so glad you said it because I'm feeling blah too. And we had yesterday off here in the UK so I really have no excuse. I will indulge in some therapy now:

- I haven't left the flat since Saturday and I really have no desire to do so.

- My husband left his half-eaten chocolate eclair unattended for about five minutes and I ate it.

- Secretely I enjoy watching the weirdo man route through the rubbish bin every morning. (Note: he's wearing a suit and holding a briefcase so I don't *think* he's homeless.)

I think that's it for now. I feel better! Thank you!

Talli Roland said...

And how about another one:

I can't spell 'secretly'! Argh!

If you think age 2 is bad, wait until she's 13!

Here's my sad Truth for Tuesday: I don't enjoy the present enough. I spend far too much time worrying about the future. I probably need to be slapped.

ahh, the humor of children. My ten and six year olds have been making up their own knock knock jokes. Uhm...so not jokes, or even close to making sense. How do we tell a child they just aren't funny?!

And I think your 2 yr old and my almost 2 yr old could probably run away together and live happily ever after. This could possibly give their mothers a much needed break. I understand your angst. :0)

I have a critique partner who LOVED my last book. But the one she's reading now? Not so much. In fact, she said she's not feeling the storyline at all and doesn't like my main character. I had to let her go.

Sigh . . .

Christine Danek said...

I hear ya.

-I thought the surgery of my almost 2 year old would help him sleep through the night. I swear doctors lie. It has helped him hear and breathe better but not sleep better.

-I wish my 4 year old would stop saying "I don't like to sleep" and "it's too long for me to sleep"

-I really need a night out with the girls for martinis.

-I wish my son would just watch TV when I'm on my laptop instead of pulling on my shirt.

-I'm dreading taking my almost 2 year old on a 9 hour flight.

I do love my kids--more than anything. I just need some time apart from them now and again.

You guys make me smile and can't wait for True Blood.

I have vented. Thanks!

Sorry to hear life's a bit stressful for you right now, look on the bright sife: it can only get better, can't it? :-)

And you are right sharing the truth feels good!

So here are mine:

- I've been in the office for more than 4 hours and still haven't done more than check my e-mails, twitter and the blogosphere just kept me too busy ;-)

- I had to hide Soulless and Changeless from ym colleagues because they saw that the postman delivered some packages to me and were curious to see what I got, but they wouldn't understand, they have no idea such kind of books exist!

- I'm so sleepy I could lie back and sleep for several hours!

- If I didn't have to come to work, I would have happily stayed at home in my PJs all day long!

- Can't wait for True Blood either and more of some Eric yumminess! :-p

- Have to stop, need caffeine or else I'll fall asleep on the keyboard.

You two always crack me up, thank you so much! :-)

Love this, as I usually do. You said *your son* right?

Enough said; explains the lame jokes. Trust me. I live with four guys. Augh, the horror.

One question: do you really watch TV?? I need to get on board with that. I swear I hardly know how to use the remote and do even go there with DVR-ing something. I'm like my grandparents with a cell phone--clueless. ";-)

HANG IN THERE!!

Umm my truths you ask??

I arrive 30 minutes to work early every day to get on blogger and make sure I comment on as many blogs as I can... the only thing that keeps me sane in the mornings! Especially since I don't drink coffee!

HILARIOUS> and so so so true. We even have someone in our family who loves the lame jokes so now everytime he asks if i want to hear a joke, I say, "No. I don't." and scamper away.

Do we get to see a vlog with you freaking out at the thought of us reading your book? Now that would be funny!

Our water heater exploded this weekend. Okay, maybe that's a little melodramatic. It leaked. Now we have a new 50 gallon one (old one was 40 gallons). That means my showers can be 10 gallons longer. :D Only problem is my whole body now aches from helping the plumber get the darn thing into the basement. Don't know why. It's not like I actually flexed my muscles or anything. I think I'll spend the day reading and eating chocolate . . . in bed. :D

*My ex- called at 7 this morning to talk to MB. We were still sleeping.
*I want to go to the beach and retire.

Ahh yes. My 3yo talks of poop and butts all day and thinks it's the funniest thing ever.

Elisa Dane said...

Uh, yeah...2 and 13 are nothing. Wait till your kid is pushing 16 and tries to talk to you like you are five. Teenagers that think they are adults drive me insane!

I had an off day yesterday myself. Got some great news about my upcoming release and completely spaced on my friends birthday. Ooops! Gotta make a phone call this morning and eat crow. Bah!

The summer TV show I'm most looking forward to is So You Think You Can Dance. Can't wait!!

I killed a spider yesterday and I feel so guilty about it. But it was huge and in my garage and I thought it would crawl into my car and come out when I was driving to work. This morning I was a little scared to go into the garge because I thought it's family was going to be waiting for me to seek revenge!

I'm going to try to make it to the book club on Thursday...I've read the book and would love to meet you guys! However, I'm going to be in Canton that day (read my blog on Friday to find out why), but I'll do my best.

Not being a mother who has to listen to it all day long I love when five year-olds try to make up knock knock jokes.

Me: Who's There?
5 yo: Elephant
Me? Elephant who?
5 yo: Elephant Apple
Me: What? That doesn't make any sense.
5 yo: Ha ha ha ha ha.

I think my daughters are going into mourning over the loss of Patrick Verona....they keep hoping some other network will decide to pick the show up.

(I have a secret crush on the bald dad....how can they take the show away from him???)

Be sure to schedule a book club meeting when we come to Cleveland--better yet, schedule a book discussion with your teenage friends of YOUR book!! It will be a total love fest!

And, yeah. I'm having some blahs today. School is winding down for my girls, and the entire month of May is nothing but field trips and parties (=mom has to be at school or field trip and bring snacks/drinks for the class). So life as I know it is officially OVER.

My truths today? Let me think...

I'm bordering on fan-girl excitement for Aprilynne Pike's book signing tomorrow. :P

I can't think of anything else right now. My mind is pretty much focused on that.

Aw, I actually like "diaper head".
I work with first graders and they just say the most random things, I love it!

I also can't wait for True Blood. I want it now!

Hope the rest of your week isn't so blah... :D

And P.S I'm excited for the release of your book and can't wait to see the cover.

It's already 80 degrees out, which makes it negative fifty in my office. I need an Emergen-C.

Just thinking of how hot it's going to be this summer makes me grateful for a/c and cable. I can't wait for new Mad Men and True Blood, either!

My five year-old still talks about body parts (and the way they work) and thinks it's funny. I keep waiting for him to outgrow this, but I don't think it will be in the near future. =)

I love summer for the TV shows. I'm really hoping the Japanese Game show is on again... we love watching that as a family.

I usually am addicted to American Idol, but this year I got behind because I DVRed it during the Olympics and could never catch up. Now I just can't get into it. But Ellen is much better than I thought she'd be.

I've dropped a few people off my blog list. Not you, but a few others. I feel bad about it.

The truth?
I miss living in California.

All the new vampire stuff makes me feel like I'm cheating on Buffy.

Editing my book is making me crazy.

I think the chubby actor, Kevin James is kinda cute. Oh, and so is Hugh Jackman...as Wolverine.

My nine year old son used the word ominous, to describe the overcast weather this morning.

My filmmaker/artist hubby makes more messes than my three kids altogether. (= Bless him.

OMG i didn't realize we get to PARTICIPATE in tell the truth Tuesday!!

ok ok.

firstly: somehow even your frustrating moments sound funny and enjoyable HOW DO YOU DO THAT?

secondly: i may or may not have wasted an entire work-day yesterday by READING A BOOK on my computer. this may or may not have happened, and i may or may not now be responsible for a SERIES OF DEADLINES i must attend to before heading to NYC this weekend.

ALSO: i still haven't finished moving. i am living out of boxes and every morning i search for my socks in new places. THIS IS NOT AS FUNNY AS IT MAY OR MAY NOT SOUND. my brain hurts.

Okay, the truth:
I'm so tired right now, I may actually consider a nap at my desk.

I've realized that my 13 yo will never outgrow his potty mouth.

I really, REALLY need to get busy writing.

I feel like I'm a million miles away from having anything to query.

There are days I would love to be able to have a fit on some rather deserving people and then just heave a great sigh of relief.

*deep cleansing breath* Okay that was kinda' nice actually.

Never seen the show, but I ADORE the original 10 Things I Hate About You movie. One of my best friends has never seen it. I've been trying to remedy the situation, but Real Life keeps getting in the way. XP

My Tuesday truth: I'm on the cusp of making a major quarterlife decision, and I'm terrified. It may or may not involve law school/grad school. It most definitely involves putting my writing on the back-back burner. (What can I say? I'm a slave to academics.)

PJ Hoover said...

You can get your cursor to blink? mine doesn't, but I can see where that would be fun to watch :)
Good luck!

Elana Johnson said...

I never know how to spell things either. I just make up my own words.

And isn't it sad when it's only Tuesday and you feel like you need a weekend? And throw in the fact that you (meaning: me) don't work on Mondays and that's just sad.

But I so know where you're coming from. I'm so ready for summer vacay.

JEM said...

Your book clubs make me sad I don't live in Cleveland. If we're telling truths here, though, that's the only thing that makes me sad I don't live in Cleveland.

Sarah Wylie said...

I Google words I don't know how to spell. Which means I spend about 50% of my life Googling.

I DID NOT KNOW that 10 Things got canceled. How can this BE? Nooooo. Where will we go for snappy, unrealistic dialogue?

Lori W. said...

Truth: My children were allowed to talk as much potty talk as they desired. In the bathroom. With the door shut. :) I sort of miss the days when "Diaper Head" was the only "curse" they knew. Truth: Now, I'm going to have to go rent the movie version of 10 Things I Hate About You again. Love that. You described the TV show perfectly.

I stopped watching 10 Things after the first year. I just ... couldn't get back into it for some reason.

Did you watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the show, now the movie)? Hands down my favorite television show ever. It's on Netflix on demand. If you haven't seen it, you must. (But give it a little time to build; season 1 was fairly lame.)

And I'm getting pretty jealous about your book club. Not fair at all! We don't have anything like that here :(

OMGoodness--when does True Blood start? That has got to be one of the hottest mind-blowing shows. I can't wait to see what happens this season.

My friend Laura released her 6th book today and she still feels a bit of anxiety about how well it will be read. So you're in good company....

I remember the days of 2 year olds and their joyous displays of temper and the 5 year olds and their sad attempts at humour. They obviously DO grow out of these stages and you all will survive intact! :) Good luck!

My truth:

I am wayyy to excited about True Blood coming back on this summer. Where did my social life go?

My son is so hormonal he may not survive his teenage years. He now hates me because I took away his
PS3. I long for the days he threw fits in the mall and I had to chase him down.

C. Michael Fontes said...

I have a 7 year old and a 2 year old. I feel your pain. AND, I have twins on the way!

Congratulations on writing AND having kids... people without kids don't understand just how hard it is to write when little angry men are constantly biding for your attention.

Am I the only one who views toddlers as drunk, angry dwarves?

Carolina M. Valdez Schneider said...

Must be something in the air. I spent 20 minutes today trying to keep my 3 year old in a 2 minute time out. So much for effective discipline.

I say we all call in sick and just read books and eat Twizzlers. Maybe even watch some Real Housewives (although, I sort of preferred the OC to NJ--some of those ladies scare me).

BTW, I mentioned you guys on my blog today. Hope you don't mind, but I gave one of you a glass eye.

Amy Lukavics said...

I am totally committed and dedicated to the Real Housewives of New York. They are the best bunch of them all, man.

Also, you make me want to give Lily a magic pill that makes her stop growing. She's only four months old but that airplane story made me be like, "Aw hells no."

;) You guys are teh hotness.

Let's see...

I really need to get to the eye dr b/c I can't see straight. Too many hours on the computer, I'm sure.

I'm really excited about the new Sex and the City movie even though it seems lame with all the camel riding and crap.

Just saw the new Miley Cyrus video and I'm not liking the new sexy side since my ballerinas watch her, but I have to confess it was a pretty cool video. Never thought I'd say that about Hannah Montana.

Can't get into the New Jersey HW's yet, I'm still on pins and needles waiting to see what will happen b/t Bethanny and Jill.

Yep, no need for a social life here either.

This looks therapeutic and even though it's technically Wednesday (what am I still doing up!?) I have to play.

1. I kinda totally blew up at my boss today and then didn't apologize, 'cause I wasn't sorry.

2. I'm still awake, skimming blogs at 2 in the morning even though I should have gone to sleep a couple hours ago.

3. I sobbed like a baby over LOST tonight.

4. Even though I was planning on cleaning tomorrow I really don't think it's going to happen.

Whee! I feel better!
