WTF Wednesday: The Bieber

Is it just me or do The Bieber and this orca Beluga whale share a disquieting resemblance? I think it's the hair.

Please discuss in the comments. Also, WTF is up with Bieber mania? If anyone has an explanation that would be deeply appreciated. Similar to the Jo-Bros this kid kind of freaks me out. Then again, when I was eleven, I slept in a New Kids on the Block sleeping bag while wearing a Joey nightgown.

P.S.
OK, so after editing this post Laura sent me a link to the following video. And I have to say, even though I still find him slightly creepy, this is pretty funny. Well played, Bieber. Well played.

Freedom of speech, right???

I don't think ANYONE should be able to sing 'Baby, baby'...until their voice has dropped.

Just sayin'.

I'm right there with ya on this. This kid scares me. He looks like he is 10 and they pair him with women who look way older in his videos. I agree with the comment above that he shouldn't sing 'Baby, baby' until his voice has dropped.
That's all I got.

Matthew MacNish said...

And I think when Sheri said "voice has dropped" she meant "balls have dropped."

I'm just sayin.

Actually my eight year old daughter even thinks he's a dork, and she loves pretty much anything that's on TV.

What's with the pink hat dude?

That's bieberiffic!! Just kidding I hear all the kiddos spreading that new phrase around town.

Creepy? Yes... Annoying? Yes... A little funny? Maybe...

I think the thing about Justin is that he's young, adorable and talented (so I've heard).

Have you seen the piano playing 12 year-old Bieber look-alike? I heard he just signed a contract thanks to his youtube exposure.

Lacey J Edwards said...

I realize I just stated the obvious. By his being young, cute yada yada, I meant that he's rare. Young teen girls usually have to oogle much older men in *boy bands*.

But then again, I kind of liked oogling the older ones. *shrug*

Hardygirl said...

Okay, that is hilarious.

And, I have to confess here . . . The other day, my kindergartener asked me if I liked Justin Bieber. I said, "Who??" My older girls eye-rolled and immediately started singing "Baby, baby" in a falsetto voice. They think he's a total goober that only kindergarteners would listen to. They are WAY too mature--at 9 and 11 years old.

I don't get the Bieber craz, either. The question is, where will he be in 10 years time? A well adjusted adult or crazy and out of control. Hopefully the former.

"autograph lady lumps" - LOL! (but I would die if my own son said that)

I have a 10 yr old, and I don't think she's particularly interested in Justin Bieber. All these little kid performers just scream WRONG! to me. It's too weird.

The Bieber Boy disturbs me.

But I readily admit to loving Greyson Chance...

Oh, and by the way, that's actually a Beluga whale... not an Orca... I know, I'm a geeker... ;)

Bethany Elizabeth said...

I have to confess, after watching that video, I like him a little bit more. :) I haven't heard any of his songs, but from the tone of the comments here, I guess that's a good thing. Still... that video was pretty awesome. "Now who's old enough, b*tch?" eheheheheh. :D

Jonathon Arntson said...

I am so glad I am not the only one that feels this way. All of a sudden he was EVERYWHERE! And shouldn't he have changed his name to something better for the stage?

B.E. Sanderson said...

I would've never heard of this kid if not for all the places online making fun of him. I'm still not sure who he is (let me guess - American Idol?) but his resemblance to a young girl is just too creepy.

storyqueen said...

Have to say, Bieber did a skit on SNL with Tina Fey that totally cracked me up.

Katie Anderson said...

Well played indeed! I now think the Beebs rocks. Might even make a t-shirt just to completely mortify my children who think he is, as SF put it, for kindergardners. (How do you spell that?)

Lindsay said...

Thank God it's not just me. I really don't get the whole Justin Bieber phenomenon. Maybe I'm getting old. :)

Candyland said...

My 3yo talks about him. WTF? Where'd he appear from?

Little Ms J said...

"Let's go get a lollipop."

I'm sorry, but I was on the fence and now I love him. I have been caught shaking my head to a little Bieber and when I first realized it I was ashamed. Then I saw a lady driving through the parking lot of Target screaming, "I'm leaving my husband for Justin Bieber." The mania is madness, but wasn't it our parents that shook their heads at NKOTB, "I don't get it."

Now who's old enough, Bitch? I love it.

Unknown said...

I saw him on Oprah and have to admit, he's a cutie. But worthy of all the teen swoon? Yeah, I'm confused too. However, this video was pretty funny. "So I bought the club and turned it into a Chuckie Cheese." ROFL

Elana Johnson said...

I feel you so hard on this. I mean, srsly. We call him Justine Beaver at our house. My son is 11, and is annoyed by him. But girls are a whole different breed, so I can see why he's popular with them. I just don't get it as an adult.

And did you hear the interview he did where he didn't know what German was? That was freaking hilarious. I mean, German?? ROTFL!

Sara B. Larson said...

Yeah, I'm totally with you -- who is this somewhat freaky little kid? ;-) JK. I don't get the Beibermania at all. But oh well...

Stormi said...

I didn't know who the kid was till a few weeks ago..and I do not see why he is popular. He is not a pretty person and he is a bit scary.

I've never wished for a Beluga whale to be a vicious man-eating (boy-ling eating?) maminal of destruction more than when I saw that photo ... and surprinsingly, I've wished that a lot.

I loved (see - threw up in my mouth a little) Bieber's 'gruff voice' in the video. It really gave him that angry kitten edge.

Has Bieber written a book yet? What am I saying, I'm sure that'll be the final swift kick to my author-dream groin. The first kick will be when Kesha's picture book, "How to Brush Yo Teeth ... Wif A Bottle of Jack." Debuts on the NYT's list.

Good stuff, ladies!
My blog, it's occasionally funny.

Honestly I never really knew of him until I saw all the tweets on Twitter. And I wondered who the heck he was, but didn't care enough to research it :P

Now I at least know who he is. Sort of. :P

Dara said...

Also, how old is he? His voice doesn't even sound like it changed yet, at least not in that video. :P

Ha ha ha. Beiber who? LOL! :-)

We were watching a video of Eenie Meanie, a song Bieber sings with Sean Kingstong and as soon as the 16 year old started singing, my daughter, whose 8, says, "We'll that just ruined the song"

In which my 12 year son replies, "That's the first time I've ever heard a girl say she hates Justin Bieber."

Robin Lemke said...

I find him verrrrry disturbing.

Kristy said...

Have to admit, that video is hilarious

Laura Pauling said...

Hmm. Interesting. I've never heard him sing but will tonight on Idol. Then maybe I'll understand.

Krispy said...

Bieber baffles me, but I guess maybe he has non-Disney-affiliated appeal? He's like a small, creepier JT for younger girls? I don't know. I have mixed feelings, and mostly it creeps me out that half the time I think it's a girl singing when I hear him.

Although, that FOD video did give him a few points up. Well played indeed. My sister is just as baffled by his popularity, but as she put it, "You can't stop the Bieber fever."

Carolyn V. said...

Whoa. Bieber's world? I'm a little freaked out right now. =)

JennyMac said...

Justin Beiber...the good thing is someday my son, as a teen, can also rule the world. And my son has MUCH better hair. LOL. But good for little Bieber.

Unknown said...

that video is really funny. you've got to love child stars

XiXi said...

Admittedly, after watching that video, I kind of like him more, haha. Also, it sounds like he's finally gotten a voice change. Maybe. It might be slightly less creepy if he comes out with new videos and he doesn't sound like a four-year-old trying to hit on fully grown women.

BIEBER OR DIE.

Jessica said...

He looks too young to sing the songs he sings. I did like the video you posted though. That was pretty funny.

Donna Gambale said...

Ummm I had the NKOTB dolls -- Joey was mine, and my older sister had Jordan. And yes, we had the NKOTB nightgown, giant NKOTB pins (??? no clue why), a comic book, and God knows what else. And then I moved on to BSB (no NSync, and thank God I skipped Hanson) and OTown (Making the Band Seasons 1 and 2 were epic). And then I was finally too old to be obsessed with boy bands.

But that Bieber or Die thing was hilarious. Well played, indeed.

Tana said...

I thank GOD Almighty!!! my 8 y/o daughter is not into him. That's all.

Marsha Sigman said...

I'm pretty sure I could mace that kid and not feel bad...at all.

Jackee said...

Who are we to interpret the inner workings of the tween idol's minds? (Even if we write for the same age group....)

And I had that same Joey nightgown. I kid you not. I may or may not still know all the words to "The Right Stuff".

Talei said...

Oh..I love Mr Beluga Whale, he's gorgeous! ;) Who's the kid though?

Kelly Polark said...

Someone told my son he looked like Justin Bieber and he was not happy with that! (though his hair does look a bit like his...)
Thankfully my kids aren't Bieber crazy, but his name does come up way too often in our household.
Check out a funny story by a fellow writer/blogger:

Oh shoot, I don't know what to think about these pubescent (sp?) singers. They all creep me out a little. But then again, at age 11-12, I was standing at a Beatles concert screaming my head off and had every inch of my walls in my room covered in photos of the Beatles (I would have killed for Paul!)
I guess it's just the way of kid crushes :-)

Jemi Fraser said...

Yup - preteen girls have very interesting tastes - thankfully they grow up :)

Tabitha Bird said...

I don't know wtf is up with that either. But then again I am not a preteen with posters all over my walls anymore. Maybe you have to appreciate the boy who is still waiting for his voice to deepen and his baby face to fade to know wtf is up with that :)

Lydia Kang said...

Okay, the Biebe or Die vid is pretty funny.

But yeah, I don't get it myself, but I can see why the little gals do. My kids are too young to be into him. Yay.

Okay, don't people remember going INSANE over "The Guy" of our day? As in, crazy-insane? Every decade has "The Guy" for young teenage girls. He's "The Guy" for this current crop.

Any 70's pre-teens out there? Can I get a holla for Shawn Cassidy?

Vicki Rocho said...

I don't get it, and I'm not sure I want to. I chalk it up to the Perfect Storm of Marketing.

Personally, I think it's totally EWWWW to have any pre-pubescent child singing to me about love.

I'm so grateful that my daughters are not on this bandwagon.

Vicki Rocho said...

What the heck? I typed a comment, I submitted it but it disappeared. I have a feeling if I retype it, it'll suddenly appear and then I'll look like a doofus who doesn't know how to post.

Well, I'll chance it.

I don't know what the deal is with Bieber mania. I think it's due to the Perfect Storm of Marketing. I'm really grateful my daughters aren't fans because it grosses me out whenever a pre-pubescent sings about love. Just ewwwww.

JESSJORDAN said...

Okay, the part about the Chucky Cheese (or however you spelled it) cracked me up. Definitely well played.

My hubby showed me a website awhile ago with pictures of lesbians who look like Justin Bieber. Cracked. Me. Up.

Annette Lyon said...

I'm lost on Bieber mania too. (So lost that until recently, I thought the name was pronounced BYE-bur.)

Great video, though. I love it when celebrities can poke fun at themselves.

(Just as a gee whiz, my personal and writing is The Lyon's Tale--not the Books one. :)

Nice to know I'm not alone with the creepy Bieber thoughts (not that my thoughts are creepy...ick). Very funny!

Your "about us" is hilarious! Glad I found your blog.

Susan Fields said...

I have to admit...that video cracked me up. My son has Justin Bieber hair, I call him Justin all the time. He HATES it. :)

Sherrie Petersen said...

My son was so annoyed that he was on Idol tonight. Who likes this guy? How did he become so famous? Can I hire his publicist because that person is worth every penny!

Anonymous said...

Okay, I know nothing about this kid, but that video cracked me up. At least he (or someone) has a sense of humor!

Bieber freaks me out, but I have to admit that I get it. I understand Bieber fever. He's pretty talented, is cute and he's Canadian. What's not to love? I'm just glad he's not trying to wear those pencil pants (skinny jeans, I think they're called, officially) the Jonai tried to destroy an entire generation with.

Don't call this a comeback

So it’s been a minute. Or 10. Or truthfully more like 2,102,400. At least we think that’s how many minutes there are in 3 years, but let...
