Tell the Truth Tuesday

1. We're filming our book trailer Sunday and it involves one of the Roecker sisters traipsing around in a
"school girl uniform" while being photographed by our father. Wrong on so many levels.

2. Said "school girl uniform" was purchased from a second hand store and is made by Limited Two. Needless to say it doesn't zip.

3. We spend approximately two hours every day on the phone obsessing about things that we have absolutely no control over. It goes something like this:

Laura: So, if you had to like guess, what do you think our Amazon rank will be the first week THE LIAR SOCIETY is out?

Lisa: Hmm...I don't know. I mean, wouldn't it be amazing to break 50,000? Do you think we'll get good reviews on Amazon?

Laura: I don't know. I mean, maybe right? People might really like our book, you know?

The hallmarks of these conversations are the words "I don't know." You know why we don't know? Because neither of us can predict the future. I just wish we could figure out a way to stop talking about it already.

4. We are obsessed with The Story Siren's 2011 Debut Author Challenge. Some participants have actually listed THE LIAR SOCIETY as a book they want to read in 2011. It never gets old. We keep sending links back and forth to each other because we're in shock that people we don't know actually want to read our book. Crazy.

5. I got a big old Amazon package in the mail yesterday with MOSTLY GOOD GIRLS, which I'm dying to crack open (among a few others), I have yet to finish REVOLUTION (which I still really love) and I'm listening to ARE  YOU THERE GOD, IT'S ME VODKA in the car (which is so, so wrong, but so, so funny). Will my to-be-read pile ever shrink?

Spill it...what's your truth this Tuesday?

P.S.: Check it out...ahh Black Friday...

My truth? I've been so obsessed with writing lately that I haven't read anything and I can't even think of a book (besides yours) that's coming out in 2011. I know there are tons I want to read, but I'm drawing a blank. December can't get here soon enough.

The truth is that I hate Black Friday. If I didn't work in retail I wouldn't set foot outside my door the entire Thanksgiving weekend.

Can't wait to see the video!

My truth- My boys have been watching SO much TV lately because I had a breakthrough with my WIP and I"m trying to get it all down before I forget. Also, I hate Black Friday. People are so mean when this is so supposed to be the season when everyone is happy and go lucky. But no. It makes me want to do online shopping this year.
I can't wait to see your trailer!

So happy for you girls. You are on my TBR list and so many people want to read your book because there was something there that caught our attention and it is okay to obsess about rankings.

It is scary and exciting at the same time for you...I'm sure. :) Best wishes.

I have never/will never shop on black friday. I'd kill somebody. You'd be linking to a news page with my mugshot. I'd rather gouge my eyes out with a rusty spork.

Plus, I've got mad online shopping skills, yo.

Happy Thanksgiving, ladies.

Ha! I'm going to guess that's because it's made entirely of buttons, you kidders.

I haven't made a 2011 debut authors list. That would take a long time. But if I were to make such a list, your book would be on it too.

I love that Chelsea Handler book! She's so blunt and funny!
LOL on the school girl (emphasis on girl) outfit! I had my dad videotape me doing the dance from My Little Sunshine while his neighbor ogled from his lawn tractor. Also so wrong! :)

Can't wait to watch the video!

Thank you for the image of one of the Roecker sisters in a schoolgirl outfit. That'll get me through the day quite nicely, methinks.

Also, there's an "Are you there, God? It's me, vodka" book? I NEED THAT! Can I have it when you're done? :D

Really, the schoolgirl outfit comment's the only truth I have for the day. Do you really need another?

Well, I always believed that obsessing over something you have no control over leads to peace, tranquility and great outcomes. Right? Right? Ugh, okay, maybe not. But hey, I'm pro at it, so I'm probably not the best person to give advice on how NOT to do it. Sorry. ;)

P.S. I can't WAIT to read your book!!!!!

I'm sort of freaking out that it's almost 2011. What the heck. Where did 2010 go?

Also, I'm excited to see your trailer and to read your book! My TBR pile is endless. It only gets bigger.

Black Friday. . . in my house it's Buy Nothing Day. : )

Can you do a whole post about making the book trailer? I am fascinated.

Totally looking forward to The Liar Society!

It's kind of interesting commenting on your posts so late in the day.

For example: I probably would have went dirty old lecher too, but now I just get to watch Simon do it instead.

I need to get in on the 2011 Challenge thingy.

I love the debut author challenge, so many good books are coming out. And, why wouldn't we want to read yours?

Marsha Sigman said...

You are so lucky right now because...I CAN tell the future! Yeah, that's right. And your book will be awesome and get great reviews! But the school girl video...that is disturbing.

Also, what are those women camping for Black Friday going to do about Thanksgiving? I mean I love to shop the good deals but there is no way I am missing out on the food.

And that's my truth.

Fretting is fun, isn't it? Nice to-read list. I'll amazon some of those. I've turned googling to amazoning. Is that okay? Corporate verbs. They suck in many ways, but are fun to use.

Okay, I've got a great one! (but I should prob post anonymously)

Are you ready to laugh your heads off?

Yesterday, my five year old wrapped scotch tape around his penis and I had to take him to Urgent Care!

Nicole Zoltack said...

My truth? I should be working on nano right now but instead I'm reading awesome blog posts.

Joanne R. Fritz said...

Ouch! I'm still picturing Corey's son at Urgent Care. Ooooo... poor kid.

My truth? I hate Black Friday. And I work in a bookstore. And I've worked it every year for the past 8 years. No exceptions. I hate it when people want what's "popular" for their kids.

I've never heard of ARE YOU THERE GOD, IT'S ME VODKA. I think it's funny and really cute how you've mixed two completely different titles together, one a MG Judy Blume book, and one definitely for adults. Could this be a new trend? A contest idea?

Think of the possibilities...

Jackee said...

Of COURSE they want to read Liar Society! :o) It's going to be wonderful--I can't wait to get my own copy.

My truth? I want the eating of the T-day desserts without the actual baking of them tomorrow. And yet, I'm such a food snob that I know I'll never be satisfied with the end results of the baking unless I do it myself.

Have a great holiday!

Um funny I happen to be reading revolution right now... its like a drug really :P There is a reason why random people you don't know (like me :) are adding your book to there TBR pile! It sounds amazing!

Don't call this a comeback

So it’s been a minute. Or 10. Or truthfully more like 2,102,400. At least we think that’s how many minutes there are in 3 years, but let...
