Five Things We've Learned This Week

1. We're 99% sure that Laura has some kind of medieval respiratory disease. We've narrowed it down to Typhoid and Consumption. To give you an idea of what we're dealing with over here, watch this:

For the record, I'm playing the role of Ewan McGregor over here, only instead of willing Laura to live, I'm begging her to work on our WIP. It's a sad state of affairs.

2. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer might have the most gorgeous book cover I've ever laid eyes on. It's a work of art. Must. Read. This. Book.

3. I like to say "Sweet Fancy Moses." A lot. I have no idea where it came from (a tweet perhaps?). But I can't stop saying it. I said it to the kids the other day and they thought it was hilarious.

4. Gwynnie tried to fool us into thinking she's self deprecating and funny.

Nice try. We're still not gonna sit through Country Strong.

5. Role reversal is a bitch. Yesterday Laura was all mopey and crabby and pessimistic. It. Was. Awful. Laura is supposed to be the glass-is-half-full-sister and I'm the you-better-freaking-fill-my-glass-NOW sister. It's just how we roll. Not surprisingly, I SUCK at cheering people up. I was all, "Screw it! It's fine! Want me to kick their ass for you?" "I'll take phrases that aren't even remotely comforting for $500, Alex."

So, yeah, the first week of 2011 was kind of a mixed bag. What did you guys learn this week? Can't wait to hear your life lessons in the comments. Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

WOW! That is a gorgeous cover!

I learned that I better Google places I haven't gone before I go there. I almost drove to the wrong town this morning. Good thing I looked it up.

Okay, I have to totally agree! That is a way sexy cover. Mmm....

What did I learn this week? How to have the stinkin' flu. I haven't had the flu in years, but I've now lost any food I've consumed over the last week, and have the chills but am sweating like a pig. This is just wrong. Hopefully it represents a good omen for me for the upcoming 2011. *grins, winks, and runs to the bathroom*

Have a wonderful weekend, ladies!

I am SO over G. Paltrow. She comes off like her poopy does not reek of anything but expensive, fresh-cut flowers.

I DID adore her in SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, though. Ohh, and THE ROYAL TENNENBAUMS.

Way to ruin it, Gwen!

I learned I have to give myself deadlines on blog time or I will NEVER get the revisions done...eight minutes left.

I learned that some weeks are just better than others. And that flannel-lined jeans are a must if you have a cold winter.

Gwen wormed her way back into my good graces with her part in Glee. I hope Laura's feeling better soon! IF no one is filling your glass...then you'll go thirsty. Or something:) Have a great weekend girls!

Oooohh, I would like to know what's behind "phrases that aren't even remotely comforting for 1000."

Yes....a mixed bag this week for sure.

(Feel better soon......)

I learned that the only real difference between the first week of the year and the last week is our attitude. And that it's 100%, if it doesn't control you.

That is definitely a beautiful cover and the title is catchy too. Going into my TBR pile.

Laura, I hope you feel better. Typhoid sucks, but it is fun to say.

2011 has been my bitch so far. Really. I learned:

1. I'm kind of a stud at work. On Monday I had three men call to refer me business, a lunch invite to sit down with some peeps at the Pentagon and on Tuesday I negotiated a deal that left two very narcissistic boys look like they were going to cry. By Wednesday I had a fat head.

2. My fat head is not loving pregnancy as I get further into it. I can't wait to meet my daughter and make her feel guilty for the rib that keeps popping out of place.

3. I really like chocolate shakes. More so than I ever realized.

4. My husband is probably the most wonderful man in the world.

5. I really can't wait to see your names on a book spine.

Aw, I hope Laura feels better soon!

I love Moulin Rouge. And that cover is fab.

I never was a huge Gwen fan although I did like her in Shakespeare in Love.

Anthony actually slept last night (only got up once) so I actually fell somewhat well-rested! So I learned that sleep is wonderful, lol

Wow, nothing like having a medieval respiratory disease. Well, good luck with that one. I'll stick with my crappy old cold which my kids decided to share with me. My daughter even suggested I share my chocolate with her because that would only be fair. ;)

Life lessons...hmmmm

I am coming to the realization that the crankier I am, the worse my kids behave. There is an evil connection there.

Also, no matter how hard I beg...my ass is not magically shrinking from my holiday chocolate binging. I may have to actually exercise. Horror.

LOVE that cover! I learned that going back to a room full of high school students after two weeks off is NOT easy. I'm exhausted and cranky! :-)

Feel better, Laura!!

This week my lesson has been - nothing else matters as much as family and friends. Love them. Treasure them. Spend time with them.

Now fill up that glass and DRINK IT, ladies!

I love Moulin Rouge!

I learned this week that you should never think you're getting over your cold 2 days in. If you're feeling okay, it just means it's about to get SO MUCH WORSE. -__-' Bright side? I feel better today.

Here's to hoping we're both healthy again soon.

I love "sweet fancy Moses." That is great. I used to say that too. Now I say all the time, "Let's blow this chicken coop." My daughter always laughs, but that's not really anything to judge by.

This week is not going to determine your 2011! You guys are awesome!

I learned nothing is ever too important to rush for. My poor car and its lack of bumper are testament to that.

Yeah...I guess that's the best way for me to be shown the importance of patience. Sigh.

Well, jeez. I can't top your list. My list is probably all mushy and sentimental stuff.

And it took me a minute to figure out who Gwynny was - I didn't recognize her in that get up at all! Uh, yeah. I can imagine she probably fell short of her desired goal. Doesn't she always?

Seems like everyone has had a tough week. Come on 2011--you're not supposed to suck like this!!!!!!

Amazing cover! That scene in that movie (one of my all time favorite movies) ALWAYS breaks my heart. But seeing it out of context with those comments made me snicker picturing you both there...Hope the illness gets better!

I've learned that going back to work after holidays sucks :)

I re-learned (for about the millionth time) that teaching preschool is not for the faint of heart. Or the tired. Or the post-holidayed. But it's the perfect job for those that can't spell.

I am the oldest of four girls and whenever I fall apart my three sisters sort of all bump into each other with looks of horror on their faces. I'M the fixer, so when I need fixing they don't know how to proceed. However, they always rise to the challenge and lift me back up. We're quite a foursome.

What did I learn this week? Hmmm, I'd say that getting my line edits from my editor on Wednesday night was heart-stoppingly-exciting. That pdf file served as a proverbial pinch that this is indeed happening to me.

You are hilarious, Lisa. That is all.

Haha, I can't top all that you learned this week.

One thing I did learn (not really learn because I already knew it, but they just proved it again) is that meteorologists lie. Or have no clue what they're talking about. First they told me 3-6 inches of snow, then 1-3, but we got nothing. Flurries and that was it. Damn weatherman has no clue what he's talking about!

Don't call this a comeback

So it’s been a minute. Or 10. Or truthfully more like 2,102,400. At least we think that’s how many minutes there are in 3 years, but let...
