Tell the Truth Tuesday: Random Musings

1. I've rewritten the same post about having a good attitude in publishing about 10 times. I really want this post to work because I think it's true. A good attitude will take you far in this business. And yet as I type, I keep envisioning one of those horrible motivational posters with a cat hanging off a ledge saying "hang in there." We might be the Pollyannas of publishing, but that level of positivity sort of gives me a headache.

2. I really wish Gap would have used the cast of Glee in their Holiday 2009 commercial. I love Gap holiday commercials and I've missed them the past couple of years, but this one just doesn't do it for me. It feels like a repeat somehow. Featuring the cast of Glee would have been so fresh, so 2009. Any Gap execs reading this can feel free to contact me for future advertising discussions.

3. I'm supposed to be revising, but instead I'm watching Gossip Girl. I'll admit this season took a nosedive, but the past couple episodes have been badass. Love triangles abound just in time for November sweeps. And let's face it, cardigan loving Dan Humphrey operating in Hugh Heffner mode is good times. Well, played Gossip Girl. Well played.

4. Having Stacey as a sister is sort of like being related to Oprah. Our insanely generous sister took us to the spa last weekend to celebrate selling our book and we have the (staged) photos to prove it.

5. I still obsessively check StatCounter. Loretta claims that it's just my particular brand of crazy and I think she might be right. I don't even know what I'm looking for, but I love trying to figure out who is reading our randomness on a daily basis. Honestly, I can't think of a better way to procrastinate.

Now it's your turn to 'fess up in the comments. What's your truth this Tuesday?

I saw that Gap commercial too and I hated it. It was complete WTFery. Seriously. It was bad. I didn't even look at the damn clothes!

WTFery...I love that!

This memory/confession was triggered by this post:

In my 11th grade AP English class I won the Pollyanna award and had no idea what it meant. It wasn't until many years later that I realized it was a reference to a character.

Okay - totally agree on the Gossip Girl bit & seriously great idea about the cast of GLEE that would have been awesome!
I discovered your blog through Shannon's (ramblingsofawannabescribe) and I love it! I definitely had to add you to my follow list!
Congrats on the book! It sounds great!
Oh & so jealous of the spa trip - boy do I need one already! NaNoWriMo is making me need all kinds of pampering once I finish this current manuscript!

Here's mine: after years of reading up on publishing/writing and all that goes with it, now that I'm actually getting somewhere, I'm super nervous.

forgot to post my truth - ;o)
Confession: I obsessively check my blog for comments when I put a post! I can't help it, I am just curious & I wonder & I wait & I read & well as you can see I obsess! Oh & I also cannot survive the day without at least one piece of hard candy. No idea why.... ;o)

Last night I finished the first draft of my current WIP. No one handed me a marathon medal, but I think the universe and I had an understanding.

I really wanted to see past contestants from So You Think You Can Dance in that commercial. No bones.

That Gap commercial hurts my feelings. I'm with you. It's their own fault really. They've set the bar so high for themselves in the past. it just feels like a SYTYCD rip-off. Glee, much better idea. I'd hire you.

Little Ms J said...

Hmmm... Tell the truth?

Stacey is my kind of people and I really wish you guys were wearing Snuggies in that pic.

I overslept and missed two conference calls that I did not care about.

I really wish I'd get a cold so I could catch up on some sleep and program my TiVo, but I don't have time.

I ate a happy meal in the car yesterday because I didn't have time to be nutritious.

Annette Lyon said...

Yesterday I didn't get dressed. How's that for truth? As a result, I'm quite sure I embarrassed my junior high daughter when I picked her up from school and her friends needed a ride home. I was happy oblige, but I looked like crap.

On the list today: take a freaking shower and get dressed, woman. Oh, and edit. That, too.

Artemis Grey said...

My truth? Hmmm

I'm not working right now and I should be but I'm leaving a comment here instead, and then I'm going to add a sentence to a YA query I'm working on.

Ms. J - I thought those WERE snuggies for a split second. Then I spent five minutes laughing over the fact that you wished they were.

I would, at this point, rather edit than eat because I have really good feelings about this YA ms and I want to send out queries so that I can then not eat because I'm nervously awaiting rejections while hoping for interest.

I'm terrified that I'm going to turn eighty and still be 'that girl who wrote her whole life and never got published'...

confused homemaker said...

I'm not feeling the commercial either.

My confession is that yesterday I ate nutella on bread for lunch & told myself it was healthy because I was looking at fruit while doing it.

Valerie Geary said...

At first I thought you were wearing Snuggies in that last picture!! :) Oh and every time that GAP commercial comes on I reach for something to throw at the TV, then quickly realize changing the channel would be easier.

Fun question! Here we go:
*I totally, absolutely, completely LOVE my job as a high school teacher - the kids are fantastic at this age!
*I'm not complete without my first cup of extra-hot coffee in the morning.
*Chocolate is the central component of my DNA, and I think without it, I would cease to function and die.
*And here's the hard one... I've been stalking this site for a while and I desperately want you guys to follow my blog - you are so fun! Whew! That was tough. :)

The GAP really needs to call you. The break dancing/rapping thing is so tired...

Tuesday confessions: I ate a brownie for breakfast. I told my oldest he needed to get a sense of humor. I tripped walking UP the stairs (Why is that always worse?).

I am 33 and love to watch Christmas Cartoons. I get that warm fuzzy feeling inside. I do love all the christmas commercials. I love the M&M's where Santa passes out from the talking M&M's. Did I just say that???

Kristi Faith said...

FYI: I read your randomness every day and even when I don't have time to comment, you ladies make me smile.

Confessions: Totally obsessed with comments on my blog too...and I just discovered Google Analytics (I know, where have I been?) and I check it constantly, even though it only reports every 24 hours.

Katie Anderson said...

I so wish the Gap would call you and I laughed out loud and J wishing you were in snuggies.

I want a Stacey!

Tuesday Truth: I told my son the eggs had gone bad because I was too lazy to cook them. They make cereal for a reason!!!

See, moments like these I wish I still had TV. :)

My truth of the day: I am addicted to cocoa roasted almonds. Hopelessly addicted. They're like low-fat, heart-healthy crack.

Heidi Willis said...

I always wonder what sitemeter addicts think of me... I often open a blog and then get distracted and go get dinner ready and help with homework and put kids to bed... then 4 hours later go back to it.

If I only visit one page, do you just think I'm a REALLY SLOW reader? Or that it's so good I'm memorizing it?

JESSJORDAN said...

Ya know, Pollyanna, the new Gap commercial doesn't really do it for me either. They should definitely hire you for marketing.

Hmm, now for me to tell the truth. I fell down my stairs yesterday (yep, for real), and I've been laid up on my couch, with my foot in a wrap, ever since. Good. Times.

Tere Kirkland said...

The truth?

I've been NaNoRevisMo-ing, instead of WriMo-ing this month.

Some might call it stalling, I call it humoring myself.

And now I have what looks like a brand new manuscript. I'm even fooling myself.

Caroline Starr Rose said...

Two more: I haven't even seen the Gap commercial (even though you've made it so easy to watch), and I was sure those robes were Snuggies, too.

My truth? I've had to learn to ask for help when I need it. (I'm a man. That don't come easy.) Without a crit group to screen my work, I wouldn't be nearly as effective, or nearly as motivated.

Having folk cheer you on via Twitter's nice too (love the #amwritingparty)... :)

Natalie said...

My truth is I don't feel like writing AT ALL and so I'm blogging instead.

Carolyn V. said...

Yeah, I check my sitemeter once a day. Sometimes more. I've gotta stop doing that!

While I'm writing, I spend way too much time thinking about food to eat. Chocolate is my biggest threat. =)

lisa and laura said...

My truth? I'm still listening to Toddler Tunes on the music channel. Lydia is napping.

JEM said...

My embarrassing truth - I've been pronouncing it NaNoWreeMo all along. Didn't occur to me that it would be pronounced any other way until I watched the video on Rachelle Gardner's website yesterday. I've been talking to other NaNoers and pronouncing it that way. Nobody corrected me. Wah waaaahhhhh.

Rebecca Knight said...

Hehehehe, I can't get enough of these posts ;).

Also, do you think Stacey will adopt me? You guys are so lucky!

Confession: Sometimes at work, when there's no one else in the bathroom, I do little dances in front of the full length mirror :).

the truth is I am behind on my nanowrimo and I'm in a bad mood this week hence so are my characters! I have Shakira's song she-wolf stuck in my head, and I almost turned my heroine into a werewolf because of it lol!

ps my friend made me watch Glee with her and now I'm addicted! I admit I have a think for checking my stats too!
wink, wink I'm the gal in NH!

Keeping the glass-is-half-full mentality can get a bit tiresome. But I'll take it over the alternative. :]

Sarah Wylie said...

I want a Stacey too!

Whenever something is going around (right now it starts with 'swi' and ends in 'uuu', I always seem to get it. Without fail. I've pretty much given up on preventive measures. (Okay, the hypochondriac in me won't let me give up completely. But I've cut back the washing from 200 to 100 times a day...)
Oh, and did I mention I found out I'm allergic to hand sanitizer two weeks ago? I have to carry around my own special, geektastic, lemon-scented stuff. Love my life.

Kim said...

I agree. Keep your Pollyanna alive. It sucks being a glass half-empty girl. I'm not lyin'.

Oh, and my big confession is something I've been saving for a blog post, but my LiLa confession is that while I REALLY, TRULY am excited about your book deal, I'm totally jealous that you have each other to do it with. I wish I had a sister (one, let alone two) that I'd want to spend that much time with. I'm going to give you Power Puff girl names. If I could keep the two of you straight, I'd know who gets to be Buttercup.

My confession: I secretly fear my novel is brilliant. I also secretly fear my novel isn't brilliant.

Glee would have been awesome in that commercial! Dude, Gap should be listening to you guys! My truth today...I should have put my laundry up 2 hours ago and I didn't!!!

Kelsey (Dominique) Ridge said...

Okay, I agree with you about the Gap commercial. It just felt awkward to me.

My truth: I love fanvids. I'll watch 15 different vids for one song until I find one I like. Then I only listen to that one.

Another awesome post (no surprise there!)

My truth: Being a writer is slowly destroying me. I went to the chiropractor and found out I have carpel tunnel in both wrists AND my neck is horribly out of alignment from hunching over a laptop all day. But I've decided to think of them as battle wounds and wear them with pride!

My confession: Haven't seen Glee yet!

My truth for today: I spent two hours watching videos on YouTube today from someone who lives in Japan and documents all the cool cultural aspects. And I enjoyed it. (Shows how much of a geek I am, LOL)

I told myself it was research for my novel...:P Although I should've been writing those two hours.

I'm pretty sure I excel at the art of procrastination...

Meh.

Lisa and Laura,

Thank you for the clarification about Noah - very much appreciated. See, I told you that you guys
rock! :) I removed the post.

Truth: I wish I had a big sister instead of an older brother.

Gail said...

Oh you are sooooo lucky to have a sister like that! When I get a book deal, I'm sure my sister will probably say,"Let's celebrate and do something, can you pay for it now that you're rich?" That's so wrong on many levels:-)

I've had to force myself to leave the house during the day so I don't keep checking my email. Even with the sound off, I can tell when a new message has come in. The computer blinks differently. Serious. I can tell. I'm freaking myself out.

I actually like the GAP commercial, but I agree with you that the cast of Glee would have made it so much better.

Even though it's Wednesday, I'll add my truth - rather, I'm about to sit down for a whole lotta truths directed at my writing. I'm meeting for the first time with one of my book readers to go over the "loves" and "hates" of my manuscript. I'm a little scared. ;-)

I would love to see Glee in a GAP commercial. And just the mention of those posters reminded me of my dentist. They had them plastered all over the ceiling.

Jill Kemerer said...

After one viewing of the Gap commercial, I knew it was going to be a long, long holiday season. It may be the reason the suicide rates rise in December. Just sayin'!
