Gonna Have to Face It, I'm Addicted to Blogs

People always ask me why I decided to start writing and usually I tell them that I was bored at my job (true), I've always loved to read (also true) and I figured that if we published a book it might help solve the whole healthcare crisis (um...totally not true, but it would be nice, right?).

While (most) of those things contributed to that fateful night Laura and I decided to start writing books together, none of them are the real reason I started writing.

The real reason I started to write books is so I could start blogging.

Whew, I'm so glad I got that off my chest.

The thing is, I LOVE blogs. I've always loved blogs. Go Fug Yourself was seriously the only thing that got me through my life as a corporate cog. The Pioneer Woman actually inspired me to start cooking. And I'm convinced that if Ted Casablanca met me in real life, he'd totally be my gay husband.

Way before I ever even dreamed of writing a book, I dreamed of having a blog of my very own. I'd see something funny on TV and write out an entire post in my head. I even tried to start a blog a couple of times. I'd open up a blogger account and sit down to write something witty. Something entertaining. Something worthwhile. But when it was just me and that flashing cursor I came up blank. The truth was I had nothing to write about. That flashing bastard of a cursor taught me something: My life was boring.

And that, my friends, is why I started writing. I wanted something to blog about dammit.

And here we are today. I promised myself that I'd take a blogcation over Christmas and I was true to my word. My computer was shut down completely on December 23rd and I managed to stay away for five long days. But the last couple days I've started showing signs of withdrawal. I've been listless and cranky. I was just a little bit off and I couldn't figure out what was wrong until finally this morning I cracked and opened up blogger. I clicked on a few links, read up on what my friends had been up to over the long weekend, wrote a quick post and I felt better. I felt like myself again. I'm back baby!

God bless the blog.

To all the blogger addicts out there (me included) Cheers to the new blogging year ahead! May we have much to say even if it's about a stinky tv show or us ranting. We can say it darn it because we blog woohooo!

ps I thought it was funny that I got a knockoff pair off uggs for x-mas. I totally cracked up laughing and no one knew why.

Yay, you're back--the natural order of the blogosphere is restored! I couldn't stay away but a few days; I must blather on, I guess. And, besides, it's fun!

WOOHHHOOOO!!! Yeah, I didn't know about blogging until recently, but it is a lot of fun! It was hard to stay away over Christmas!

Welcome back! I didn't know diddley (sp?) about blogging until the summer & I agree - it's a lot of fun :)

I recently discovered that writers aren't the only bloggers around. I found a batch of amazing artists & fashion designers. I love to see blogs where I can explore the creative process of others. Everywhere else, you have to drive an hour to get to the nearest gallery!

woot! Glad to have you back! Got to say, one of the things I'm most excited about this new year (besides the baby my sis is cooking up) is that I'll be blogging and following! This is my FIRST year in the blogging world!

SO glad you're blogging too...this is one of my fav reads of the day!!! ((and yeah - glad you're back!))

I love the pioneer woman blog too! My sister and I are both hooked. Except she can actually cook the stuff while I just stare and tremble and have panic attacks :) The PW makes it seem so fun though. I'm glad you two are back to blogging! Your posts make me laugh :)

Hahahah! Dare I say it? So many blogs, so little time....

I had no idea what a blog was until this year. Yes, I'm a technotard, but I used to write notes like crazy on FB, and finally someone wrote to me and said, "why aren't you blogging?" Before facebook, it was mass e-mails and crazy long Christmas letters. I do believe blogging resolved some of the compulsion to write about everything around me. Is this a sign we talk too much? Or think too much?

Welcome back to the blogosphere! Happy New Year!

Yay for blogs! (and yay for yours, ladies, because it's one of my favorites.)

I just got my sister into it, hahaha. I feel like I just introduced someone to tiramisu. :D

Oh man I'm sooo super addicted to blogs! Because there are so many wonderful tidbits about the craft Every. Single. Day. And I also feel like I "know" the writers of some of the blogs I follow, so I love the personal anecdotes as well!

PS Go Fug Yourself and The Superficial got me through some loooooooooong days at a few of my past day jobs...

PSS thanks for the great song reference, it's now stuck in my head--and I actually like it :-)

Okay, I had to do it...

ADDICTED TO BLOGS
Your computers on, but you're not writing
Your internet is not your own
Your heart sweats, your body shakes
Another post read is what it takes

You can't sleep, you can't eat
There's no doubt, you're in deep
Your throat is tight, you can't breathe
Another blog post is all you need

Whoa, you like to think that you're immune to the blogosphere, oh yeah

It's closer to the truth to say you can't get enough, you know you're

Gonna have to face it, you're addicted to blogs

You see the signs, but you can't let go of the mouse
Your internet's runnin' at a different speed
You heart beats in double time
Read another POST and you'll be mine, a one track mind

You can't be saved
Bloggy goodness is all you crave
If there's some left for you
You don't mind if you do

Whoa, you like to think that you're immune to the blogosphere, oh yeah

It's closer to the truth to say you can't get enough, you know you're

Gonna have to face it, you're addicted to blogs

Might as well face it, you're addicted to blogs
Might as well face it, you're addicted to blogs
Might as well face it, you're addicted to blogs
Might as well face it, you're addicted to blogs
Might as well face it, you're addicted to blogs

Glad you are back! I have a boring life that isn't really blog-worthy, but I'm very opinionated so I think that makes up for it!

Glad you're feeling better... gotta feed the addiction. (I know I am!)

I so hear you. For me, it's a love/hate relationship.

Sometimes I feel suffocated by the blog. Like I have to go read every single bloody word people have posted.

So that's the hate part.

Other times, I love reading them. No pressure. If I get to it, I get to it.

So that's the love part.

We're working toward a resolution. I'll keep you updated.

You have been big-time missed, ladies! So, so glad you are back. Without you guys and Princess and Kasie and Stephanie and Bane it's been a little lonely. Now we just need our darling Stephanie to re-join the ruckus and we'll be rolling :)

I seriously love hanging out in the blogosphere. It feeds my need to glimpse inside everyone else's lives without ever having to leave the comfort of my own sofa (which totally gels with my need to be lazy!).

I do fear my own blog may have taken over a bit too much of my thought process though. Is it an issue when you have an encounter at the supermarket and think to yourself "Oh! I am SO blogging about this when I get home!"?

"And that, my friends, is why I started writing. I wanted something to blog about dammit." --->

Bahahahaha. Okay, thank you for this. I really needed it this morning.

Natalie said...

Ha, ha! You are an excellent blogger. I'm glad you decided to write so you could share your randomness with all of us.

Shannon Messenger said...

Yay-I missed you guys! And I agree, I adore blogs/blogging. I feel so bad that I've been blurking a lot lately without commenting because I'm so short on time. (Stupid blog wars and editing!)

I think my favorite part isn't just the awesomely entertaining posts, but the amazing, hilarious, fabulous people I've been able to connect with through the blogosphere (btw, I do include you guys in that.) I live in the land of suburban housewives who don't read, or write, or even have email addresses (I know, insane, right?) so pretty much all my writer *friends* are online. And even though they dare me to humiliate myself and make insane deals with the universe (*cough* you guys *cough*) it's been a huge inspiration and motivation. So what I'm trying to say (in my long winded, rambling way) is thank you for having a blog and writing such fabulous posts and letting me get to know you. {{Blug}}

There's nothing wrong with that! We love having you here!

Okay, blogging is cool because it's like A DIARY except people read it! It's so much more empowering than a diary where you're actually talking to no one.

Amen to that.
