Bring on the Betas...

So, the last week has been all editing, all the time. Lucky for us we have an amazing beta ninja who's willing to read (and rip apart) our work as we go. She gives us the gift of instant feedback and we will never, ever be able to thank her enough.

And now it's time for the big test.

We're sending our baby off to people who have never read our writing before (unless you count the blog). Writers who don't know Kate or Grace or Seth. Writers who (if we're being totally honest...) scare the shit out of us. They're that talented.

So, now we wait. And we see if they love it or hate it or want us to rewrite the whole damn thing. After all, this is our last chance to make big changes.

This might be one of the scariest things we've ever done, but I guess it's time for us to (wo)man up. Because after we're done with line edits, it's going to a couple other authors who we like and respect and who have written books that we love. And pretty soon after that we'll have to send it out to writers we've never even met before who may or may not want to say nice things about our work. And then there will be ARCs floating around and reviews popping up and tears being shed. And you guys might have to remind us to breathe.

Bring. It. On.

Hmm. Sounds like one of those things that's scary but doesn't actually suck. Congrats for being at this stage ladies!

It's probably waaayyy better than you think, but the betas will find stuff to work on that hasn't even crossed your minds. That's the beauty of great betas, they're not you! :)

It crossed my mind that I haven't read any of y'alls work (except the shiny *blog*); I'll have to remedy that soon!

Best of luck, and I'm certain that no matter what the early readers think, they can be bought off with chocolate and iPads.

Oh I can't wait for Liar Society to come out. I've already told my husband that I know I'm going to love it (have can I not love it when our tastes are the same). Okay, he has no clue who you girls are or what I'm talking about, but that's okay.

Good luck with beta readers, and definitely listen to them if they say make #2 steamier. ;)

Have a great weekend!

Enjoy this time - it may be scary but its all on the big road to publication and another story to tell!

You never knew something could be so wonderful and terrifying all at the same time, huh?

I have no doubt this is going to be a fantastic debut novel. Can't wait!

Ooh, you both are fantastic! There is always a way to work everything out. (Eh...wait, I need to write that down on a piece of paper and then eat it. I can't ever seem to remember that.)

Good luck, ladies. You won't need it!

It will be fine! As others have said it will all work out :) Also, it helps that you have the right attitude about it. :)

BTW, I will be up in Cleveland this weekend. Some day, I will have to actually come up and make a point of meeting you both at a bookstore or coffee shop somewhere.

Congrats. for finishing up those edits, and that's wonderful you found such great betas. It'll be worth the fear factor I'm sure.

Dude, scary. I totally feel your nerves. Just the thought of random strangers reading my book... ahhhh!!!

And I have a question for you, but I think I'll email it, lest I look/sound like a moron, okay? Okay.

Congrats on finishing edits! Excited for you!

Every girl should know a ninja. I would say good luck, but you don't need it. You're on your way to your world domination. Please remember me when you start pooping diamonds.

Congratulations on having the ambition to make your story the best you can. It can be scary to take this step (I know I'm not there yet), but ultimately your Betas may find the things that take your book up to that next level. (Unless you're already there, in which case you have nothing to worry about.) Best of luck.

Good luck with the betas...I'm sure your book will be loved! I know the feeling of putting your book out there for feedback and how hard it can be (especially when you open yourself up to both positive and negative feedback).
