Friday Five

1. At book club last night we discussed MOCKINGJAY with semi-mixed reactions. Most loved, some liked a lot, everyone appreciated the message and thinks Suzanne Collins is a genius. We were wondering if she should quit while she's ahead though. How do you follow the HUNGER GAMES trilogy?

2. Next up is SEA by Heidi Kling, which we're all super-pumped about. If the cover doesn't make you want to read the book the description will. We've been waiting to read this one for a while!

3. Got a text while at book club that read, "Lydia peed on our bed." This simple message left me with so many additional questions and yet no desire to actually hear the answers. Needless to say, I took my sweet old time getting home.

4. Lisa seems to think labor is imminent. This coming from the girl who went to the hospital three times (all false alarms) with her second baby. Her biggest fear is delivering on her bathroom floor sans epidural, which we learned at a past book club is, in fact, possible--just ask Kellie.

5. I'm really looking forward to her popping out the baby. I'm over her complaining about being photographed (She's a diva. So much so that she told me I was smoking crack if I thought she'd take a family pic on vacation. Vacation! You should have seen her when Christina tried to snap a shot at book club.), forcing me to eat Chipotle (Unfortunately, I am not eating for two and the fact that I can house the entire thing in one sitting is just plain wrong.) and could do without the whole, "Soooo, both of your sisters are pregnant, how about you?" *wink, wink.* Not. Fun. Oh, and I can't wait to meet my new niece or nephew! Obviously.

Stay tuned and have a great weekend!

P.S.: We will be donating 7 copies of SPEAK to libraries and schools! The comments will remain open until midnight tonight. Remember, every 25 = 1 copy!

Go Speak! How awesome are you guys. Trust me you don't want to get me started on this topic. People, sometimes are idiots.
I will be checking out Sea as well.
I didn't want to be photographed when I was prego. I can feel her pain.
Love the epidural.
I haven't read the whole trilogy to comment. That's right-- put me on a lonely island and let me starve to death. I'm behind in everything.

Whoa. You can eat a whole Chipotle Burrito? Those things are about the size of a small baby, so I guess you can sympathize with Lisa then.

Can I go back and put more comments up on the SPEAK post? Libraries need copies.

Also I posted about it yesterday. If you have time and want to take a look, it's here.

If you like the cover of Sea, you'll love the book trailer. Have you seen it?

Hotheads to you both for taking a stand for SPEAK! I love this writing community.

Yay! Nice to hear about how many books are getting donated ;o) LOL Diva...

You're right about Collins. I'd read whatever she puts out!

Hope you guys are well ;o) Have a good weekend!

No kidding about The Hunger Games. How do you follow that? Maybe that's why we haven't seen anything from JK Rowling after Harry Potter (that other book doesn't count).

I always went to the hospital at the last possible moment, except for # 1 who was 3 months premature. And even then I delayed going because I didn't realize I was in labor. I was pushing in the van for # 2 (forunately water gushed AFTER I got out of the van). Both #2 and #3 came out within 30 minutes of arriving at the hospital (yep, no epidural for me!).

Good luck, Lisa!

I LOVE that you can scarf an entire Chipotle burrito in one sitting.

Can wait to hear what you guys thought of SEA...

Great cause, so here's my comment:

You totally made the right call not rushing home to pee-bed. Now if he had said, "She fire-peed on the bed and our home is engulfed in yellow flame." Then, and only after you're done nomming the burrito, do you rush home to see what the uproar is about.

A very wise tree once told some hobbits "Don't be hasty," and I see no reason to go against such sage advice.

Good weekend to you ladies!

Good luck to Lisa. I have a friend who delivered at home about an hour and a half after the hospital sent her home. Crazy how that happens sometimes.

Our group had mixed emotions about Mockingjay too. I think the last book should have been two books, because there was some things I wanted to know more about.

I'm rooting for you, Lisa. Here's hoping for a a healthy baby born via teleportation.

I still have not read Mockingjay. *Hangs head in shame*

I have Sea on my shelf at home - looking forward to it. I'm thrilled that you'll be donating so many copies of Speak. That's awesome, ladies. :-)

Good luck, Lisa.

Happy Birthing, Lisa!! Well, maybe happy isn't the right word. Um, pain-free? Quick? Easy? :)

I love that your book club reads YA. Can I join?

Ugh, being photographed while preggers is awful. I was pretty good at staying away from the cameras, but my sister (evil creature) took a few. Then she had the nerve to tell me my head looked too small for my body. But I returned the favor when she was pregnant, so we're even;)

Following up the Hunger Games would be hard - like asking JKR to follow up Harry Potter. WHAT DO YOU DO???

I had Chipotle this week too. YUM!

Marsha Sigman said...

Yea, Speak!!

I agree with Lisa, no pics this close to delivery. I look back on mine and they are hideous. The secretary at work would make beeping noises every time I walked by...like a big truck backing up.

I hated her, and she seriously had no clue how close she came to death during those last few weeks.

I feel like I'm in this weird parallel universe where I went to a book club and talked about Mockingjay last night, too. Because I did. But it's weird because now I'm imagining you were in the next apartmnent over doing THE SAME THING. Even though I know you're in Ohio. Weeeeeird.

Great idea about the donations--and I too can scarf down a burrito--and no I'm not pregnant!

Many, many sympathies to Lisa! I've had three babies and hate every moment of being pregnant. Especially the final moments. I always go to Triage several times and the last (and final) time I went twice and they sent me home while I was clearly in labor. My so smart husband took me to a hotel 5 minutes away instead and I went through transition by myself, while he slept (which really wasn't so smart of him.) Finally I told him to get me back there unless he wanted to deliver it himself and we made it just in time. So I say go to Triage as *much* as you want!

I don't know, there is something to be said about having a few pics of yourself pregnant to remember just how freaking huge you can get. No? Okay, just kidding. ;) Good luck with the delivery!

I don't know how you top THE HUNGER GAMES, or if you even try. (Or HP or TWILIGHT or etc etc) But what do you do if you truly love writing and don't want to quit? I guess just keep going and know people might be harsh. Hmmmm... probably not a dilemma I'll ever have, but interesting to think about. ;)

1. Haven't read Hunger Games yet, but I'm considering it, cuz seriously, WHAT'S ALL THIS EFFIN BUZZ ABOUT?

2. My wife has lots to say about epidurals and why they're not really a good thing, but my wife isn't commenting here today, so you're getting off easy, Lisa. :)

3. And yes, she had all of our children sans epidural. She only choked me once, too!

4. Kidding. She didn't choke me at all.

5. Why, Laura, aren't you making a road trip to come hang out with us at Philly Lit Night tonight? Hmm?

P. I suppose I'll forgive you this time, contingent upon you making it to the next one.

). I don't have anything to follow P. Oh well. I'll do better next time.

Love the Friday five. I really enjoyed SEA a lot. Very touching and real and beautiful.

And I love those texts you just ignore or don't ask any follow-up questions to. So fun.

You do know it is a sin to leave Chipotle in the basket right?

Regarding Hunger Games - I loved the trilogy, didn't love Mockingjay as much as the others, but the lady is amazing. This, of course, would concern me as a writer. Maybe I want to start out of the gate mediocre and make it to superstardom. Look what happened to Her Fearful Symmetry after Time Traveler's Wife.

7 copies is AWESOME!!! You ladies rock :)

My copy of Mockingjay is on the way... finally :)

Crossing my fingers for an epidural!

And good luck Lisa!

Diva or no, I feel for Lisa about knowing which moment is right for the hospital trip. I was just as confused on the third baby as the first! :o)

P.S. I wish I was close enough to be in your book club--what awesome reading choices you guys have!

Christina Lee said...

hahahaha just seeing this--have that baby already, girl! ;--)

Don't call this a comeback

So it’s been a minute. Or 10. Or truthfully more like 2,102,400. At least we think that’s how many minutes there are in 3 years, but let...
