When Writers Don't Write Part 2

Yeah, so a lot of you really thought I should take a nap, and really who am I to argue with advice from people like Little Ms. J, Karen, Rebecca Knight, Confused Homemaker, Stephanie Thornton, Tess and Krispy.

Mia and I had a girls day. We went to story hour and then to a holiday lunch afterwards with a few of our girlfriends. A good time was had by all. The girls had lemonade and when one of my friends ordered a round of prosecco I felt obligated to have a glass. I mean I think we can all agree that it's just wrong to let good prosecco go to waste. So, mother daughter lunch was followed up with a nice mother daughter nap.

Yeah, this whole napping thing is a slippery slope. I could totally get used to a quick hour of shut eye around 2 PM. (I could also get used to a tiny little glass of prosecco with my lunch, but that's a whole different problem...) Let's just hope our edits arrive before any unattractive habits develop.

Thanks for the fabulous advice ladies. Stay tuned as I work my way through some of your other suggestions as the week goes on.

Okay, I thought I was jealous before, but no--NOW I'm jealous. Napping? I used to love naps back in college. (I'd use my three hour breaks to grab a an hour of shut-eye.) But now--now I'd settle just for sleeping at night. Le sigh. Oh and Prosecco? Mmmmmm.

Dude, there's nothing better than a nap. I love napping. My problem: my naps become really long and then I can't sleep at night. It's a cyclical problem. I'm seeking therapy.

A little 2PM nap sounds fabulous!

Napping is never a bad habit!

And it's totally wasted on kindergarteners, because they don't even WANT it. I want it. I wish I could nap every day. 4 hour naps are completely conducive to college life. And life in general, for that matter.

Hoorrrraaay for naps! My favorite thing to do is to catch some sun time. Unfortunately, it's perfectly gloomy today--but great writing weather!

I miss naps with my daughter! Since turning three she's decided she doesn't need them anymore.

Sigh.

I'm glad you enjoyed your down time! And thanks for the link!

However outlawed naps should be really horsewhipped. Sorry, that was harsh huh?

Well, still naps are a healthy dose of rejuvenation!

Hi Ladies,

Napping gets in the way of writing sometimes, but other times I wake up from a nap invigerated. I don't seem to be able to find a balance between working out, napping and writing right now. :(

I'm having a three wishes contest on my blog...Perhaps one of your wishes is for a little more nap time...or...writing time. :) I hope you get a chance to stop over and tell us your wishes.

I just had a hot ham and cheese and a huge bowl of squash soup... naptime calleth.

Too bad I have to keep working til 5. Why, why, why don't we have siesta time?

You could always power nap if you think a full-length nap is too long. The key is to time it to your sleep cycle, so you feel refreshed rather than worse (tip I learned from a friend who took the Psychology of Sleep class I should've taken with her!).

During my summer archaelogical internship in Taiwan, naps were part of the work day - 30 min right after lunch. Best. Thing. Ever. Made the long commute and work day much easier, and then the other interns and I actually had energy at night to have fun!

Enjoy trying more of the suggestions! Thanks for the linkage! <3

I love to nap. Do it pretty much every day. However I do stay up until 2 am usually and I get up for work at 7:30am so-- it's kind of like second sleep :o)

Glad to see you are having fun!!

Am trying to decide which sounds more delightful, the napping or the Prosecco. :)

Oooooh naps!!! Those are the best! It sounds like you're having a good time with this no-writing stint.

What about cat-naps? They are short and energizing. Plus if you are lucky the kids will clean up the house when you sleep. Okay, maybe not, but a girl can dream.

Oooooooh, there is nothing I love better than a good nap - total, absolute bliss! :)
Will you take one for me, too, next time?
P.S. Did you see that I chose you and your blog for an award? Stop by Book Dreaming and check it out! ;-)

true, true - naps are a nasty habit. but once in a while you just have to allow yourself a luxury -- glad to hear you did. :D

I have another book idea for you. OCD mother carries bottles of Prosecco with her through house when she is between books. She refers to it as Mommy Medicine when her children ask. Her hair gets frizzy and she starts wearing crocs.

And go.

Yes, I agree. Naps are a slippery slope! (And I have the same cyclical problem as Elana.)

I love naps, too. I dread the day when my daughter quits taking them.

I sincerely wish I had the ability to take a quick, one hour nap. The truth of the matter is that I can't fall sleep without being completely dead to the world for at least three hours.

As far as the Prosecco goes....hot damn I can not wait to have this baby so I can enjoy wine again. Sigh.

Tana said...

Prosecco? Um, we're not really related right?
Do me a favor and catch some Zzz's for me too. Much needed and appreciated. Thanx.

Oh, my gosh, naps are awesome sometimes :). And for some reason, I find napping on a couch even more satisfying than napping in bed. You, GO, girls!

Don't call this a comeback
