Roadtrip!

We went on a roadtrip to Chicago (which was PERFECT timing because I brought along Divergent with me) this weekend and I learned a lot.

1. Veronica Roth is a genius. On May 3, 2011 you will find out why (have you preordered yet?!). The remainder of my list is the result of her genius. And buckle up. I predict a whole lot of Divergent-inspired posts in our future.

2. I have a lot of fears. Like a lot, a lot.
  • Transportation accidents (planes, cars, boats) really anything that I'm not driving. I am the WORST backseat driver on the planet and my husband wants to kill me.
  • Germs. In a rest stop bathroom I witnessed a little girl crawling under a bathroom stall, bare hands on floor. Her mom didn't wash her hands. I am scarred for life.
  • Heights. First time on top of the John Hancock building. I was short of breath. It might have had something to do with Veronica's imagination as well.
  • Spiders
  • Bees
  • Bridges (especially over water)
  • Kidnappers (and adult-nappers)
  • Burglars (particularly those after my laptop)
  • SEE? And I really could continue. My fear landscape is not a good place to be.
3. If Veronica Roth's world comes true, my husband and I would never be together. This was very obvious as I screamed at him to go no faster than 60 MPH on the highway, gripping the side of my seat, white-knuckled.

4. Despite the fact that I can barely turn around in a moving car or else I'll puke, I finished Veronica's almost 500 page book to and from Chicago. I guess a great book prevents motion sickness. It also reduces backseat driving. My husband thanks you, V.

5. I now have a severe case of end-of-book-depression. I might require some sort of intervention. Veronica, do you need a beta reader?

OMG - we are fear twins. The good news is that my marriage has survived MANY years, so there's hope! Also, Divergent? Double OMG! Incredible. No ARC for Liar Society, so must wait patiently...

I can't wait to read Divergent. It sounds fantastic. I can't think of any fears for me (that could be because my cousin dragged me on any ride that hung upside down and moved quickly ever since I was big enough to ride, not to mention being abandoned in a walk through haunted house ride when I was 6... you learn to get over fears pretty quickly).

Motion sickness be gone! All you have to do is take ginger root capsules- take one with some food about an hour before traveling- and you're good to go for cars, trains, buses, planes, helicopters....well you get the picture. I'm a "queasy easy girl" too but ginger root works! Hey, the Chinese have used it for a bazillion years.

I'm looking forward to reading Divergent BUT I can't wait to read THE LIAR SOCIETY!!!!!!

All of these reviews of Divergent are making me crazy. I was already psyched for this book. Now I'm not sure May can come soon enough.

Ugh I HATE it when I'm not driving. Everyone else just seems so reckless!

If I would have known you were in Chicago I may have busted out a pink wig, some faux pearls, and journeyed outside of my house! I'm either channeling Kate or just a huge creeper...that's up to you all.

I've been hearing so many wonderful things about Divergent I'm anxious for May to come so I can read it already! :)

Also, I think I would've barfed if I saw that little girl crawling around on a public bathroom floor...even more gag worthy is the fact her mom didn't wash her hands. I'm not a germaphobe by any means but that is FOUL. :P

I'd find the kid crawling on the bathroom floor gross too. And not washing her hands after! Yuck.

I can't wait to read DIVERGENT!

I'm so excited to read this book and had no idea it wasn't officially released yet. I groaned when my Nook told me I couldn't buy it!

Have you two read Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly yet? If not...get your hands on it pronto. It's a masterpiece of YA.

And I loathe spiders.

My husband scares the crap out of me when he drives. I tell him I don't care how he does when I'm not in there but driving with your knee is not acceptable if my life is on the line.

I don't really freak over the germ thing, comes from being around so many nasty boys in my family, but even I shudder at the thought of anyone's hands on a public restroom floor.

Definitely can't wait for Divergent!

When I read in the car, I feel terribly carsick...but sometimes a book is so good you can't stop, ya know? This is something my fiance cannot understand, Read, read, "Ugh, I feel sick," "so stop reading!" read, read, repeat :)

No faster than 60? What is the speed limit on midwest highways? In NY it's 65, but everyone does like 80.

Glad to hear Divergent is awesome, I JUST got it in the mail.

Don't call this a comeback

So it’s been a minute. Or 10. Or truthfully more like 2,102,400. At least we think that’s how many minutes there are in 3 years, but let...
