It's no secret that we've been dying to get our hands on CLARITY. The cover alone screams PICK ME UP while the cover copy shouts READ ME NOW. It's really a win-win. So, I bought the book Tuesday night, read until my eyes were crossing, slept and devoured the rest in the morning. So, yeah, you need to read this book.
Here's what the back of the book has to say:
When you can see things others can't, where do you look for the truth?
This paranormal murder mystery will have teens reading on the edge of their seats.
Clarity "Clare" Fern sees things. Things no one else can see. Things like stolen kisses and long-buried secrets. All she has to do is touch a certain object, and the visions come to her. It's a gift.
And a curse.
When a teenage girl is found murdered, Clare's ex-boyfriend wants her to help solve the case--but Clare is still furious at the cheating jerk. Then Clare's brother--who has supernatural gifts of his own--becomes the prime suspect, and Clare can no longer look away. Teaming up with Gabriel, the smoldering son of the new detective, Clare must venture into the depths of fear, revenge, and lust in order to track the killer. But will her sight fail her just when she needs it most?
What Lila has to say:
When was the last time you read a straight up murder mystery? When was the last time you read a straight up YA murder mystery? Exactly. CLARITY fits this gaping hole in the market and not only that, but Kim's voice is fresh, funny and engaging at the same time. This was the kind of book I wanted to savor and yet couldn't help but fly through. I had to know how all the pieces fit into place.
Clare was a very unique character with a special gift, which was absolutely fascinating to read about. Add that to the beachfront setting and a colorful cast of characters (most of which you suspect at one point or the other) and you have a solid read. It's hard to compare this book to anything, because it's in a class of its own, but I know fans of Kimberly Dertings Body Finder series will EAT THIS UP. And I dare you not to pick up the book at the bookstore. I mean, Clare is literally illuminated, making the jacket pop right off the shelf.
Even better, I laughed out loud throughout and was torn between multiple love interests. This book seriously has it all--tension, a fabulous pace, well-drawn characters, the perfect tone--the list goes on and on. I can't wait to pass it along to the girls in our book club. They are going to fall in love.

I just finished this book and loved it. The first two pages sucked me in. BTW, I'm a blog partner to Casey McCormick at Literary Rambles-http://caseylmccormick.blogspot.com/ and will be interviewing Kim and giving away a copy of her book on 4/3.
sounds like a great read! Thanks for the review!
Oh, Im going to check it out when IM done with Fallen. Looks cool!
Between your book and this, it sounds like maybe, just maybe, there's a resurgence of Nancy Drew-type YA. I'd be OK with that. I love a good mystery!
I love that you have a boy bookanista.
Yes! I love a good mystery, so it's great to see your review for Clarity.
I'll have to check it out!
I'm halfway through with Clarity and you're right, it's great! Definitely going to finish it tonight!
Yes! I think we need more mysteries in the YA market. The Liar Society and Clarity are just two of not enough! How cool to throw a little paranormal into it, too. And a beachfront setting? Now that's worth reading just for that. Living in the Midwest, as exciting and full of corn as it is, sometimes I long for a change of pace. :P
Getting it NOW. I almost freaked when I starting reading the blurb because at first it sounded similar to my new wip (half way through) whew! Not too similar though.
So the last original idea in like... the world...is still secure on my flash drive. HAHA, I say (evil chuckle).
Her cover is freakin' stunning.
Adding it to my list. Its been a long time since I've read a murder mystery and to add paranormal to the list is just awesome. Thanks!
Thanks for the review! Been kind of curious about this one. :)
This mysterious book is coming my via the Barnes and Noble express! I actually went to Kim's release party and she SOLD out of books, which is awesome RIGHT??
On my wishlist - NOW! :)
Totally on my wishlist...
GORGEOUS cover.
Sounds so, so, SO great! Thanks for sharing. I'll have to pick it up at my local bookstore. In the meantime, I posted your interview. :o) Thanks again, ladies! You rock! (So does Kate!)
oh, me too... I am so excited for this one.
And, guess what? Yesterday I was in B&N and saw Clarity RIGHT NEXT TO Liar Society in the "New Teen Debut" shelf that sits right up front. I grabbed your book and started doing this little chicken dance and, when this lady next to me gave me the stink eye, I said, "I know these authors!"
She wasn't impressed.
But I got both books and can't wait to dig in!!!
I'm so getting this one! I've wanted it for a while now ;o) Thanks for the review!
