Frisky Friday

Well, it's been quite a week over here, and as always there are some riveting take aways....

1. It's all about the hair. We had friends over last weekend and we (and by "we" I mean the boys) were watching the Big 10 Network (Yes, this is a real network. And yes, our TV is pretty much tuned in from September to December. Depressing, I know.) when they had a commercial featuring one of their "newscasters."

Husband: Man, she's hot.
Me: Seriously?
Husband: Yeah, you're just jealous.
Peanut Gallery of boys: *Laughing*
Me: Um, no, not jealous. I'm fully capable of admitting when a woman is hot, but she is not hot. She has blonde Barbie hair and a really good body, which provides the illusion of hotness.
Husband: She's hot.
Peanut Gallery of boys: She's ok...(Clearly not sure whose side to take. I'd like to think they were also skeptical of her hotness, but didn't want to humiliate my husband.)
Me: See! They don't think she's hot either. Megan Fox is hot. This girl is a sorry ass sports reporter on the Big 10 Network.
Husband: She's the only good thing about the Big 10 Network.
Me: *dramatic sigh meant to communicate that the only action he'd be seeing that night was on the Big 10 Network*

In retrospect I should have responded with, "Then for the love of God why are we watching the Big 10 Network?" but it didn't occur to me at the time. Ah hindsight, you are a fickle bitch.

Anyways, fast forward to Monday morning when my husband sends out an e-mail with headshot of this girl to prove her hotness. In an effort to prove the point that she was only hot because of her hair, I called in my resident photoshop genius.

So...hot or not? I'll let you be the judge...

2. Secrets destroy sisters. There is currently a post in our blogger drafts entitled, "TOP SECRET: OPEN AND DIE." My dear sisters made me swear on the lives of my children that I wouldn't open it. Clearly, they know me too well and for the record I hate them. Tune in next week to see what happens when the youngest Roeckers hijack my blog. Yeah, that's right. I just called it MY blog because in spite of recent events I'm the oldest and I'm in charge.

3. We're in the home stretch...sort of. We had a major breakthrough in London Calling last week and just passed the 50,000 word mark. Only two more sections to go until we get to type "THE END." But here's the thing, we're a little scared to finish this one. Sure, we already have about a million ideas about what we want to start next, but we're going to miss the journey we've taken with these characters. This book has required more research than The Haunting of Pemberly Brown and even though we're usually allergic to research, in this case it has allowed us to live vicariously through our characters. So, even though we're beyond excited for Major Agent to read this book, we're also kind of dreading the end.

Yeah, we're total drama queens. Deal with it.

Well, that's all we've got this week! Have a fabulous weekend and don't forget to visit next Friday to witness my public humiliation on this here blog. Good. Times.

w00t for breakthroughs! And I am insanely jealous, because I passed the 50K mark and that means I'm kinda-sorta halfway there. Augh.

All I have to say about blond-kiler-android-thing-with-sparkly-teeth is that Edward Cullen would probably consider her a threat.

Blondies on sports channels are not hot, in general.

The 50,000 word mark is huge! Congrats!

50k? Hell yeah! I love reaching those word count milestones. They're like those little mileage signs along the highway when you're on a really long road trip. Good luck crossing the finish line!

Living in PA, I am unfortunately familiar with the big 10...I will say no more excpet that I HATE sports.

Now, is that Kate's hair on that chick? lol

I agree with Loretta, blondes on sports stations are not usually hot. I have no problem with girls on sports stations, just the ones who are there for looks and not any knowledge. There are great girls who actually know sports who would much better reporters, except they lack certain, ahem, assets.

And yay on the 50k!

Love you guys! Can't wait for the big news! and I seriously can not WAIT for London Calling. I have big feelings about this one. It's NYT Bestseller material I'm predicting.

Congrats on the almost-there feeling, I love it when the end is in sight!!!

Oh, and cute, maybe...hot, meh...

She's... cute. Not hot.

I'm proud of you for not peeking at the "TOP SECRET" draft. It does have the threat of death attached to it, so maybe your subconscious is keeping you safe.

Or.. you could just be smarter than all of us and be setting up a very smart marketing blitz. That would make you little scheisters. It is kind of like a lawyer, but cuter. Even cuter than the Big 10 girl.

I totally agree that she's cute, but hot is a strong word that should be reserved for the Angelina Jolies and Salma Hayeks of the world, right? Maybe I'm just biased against blondes. Suck it, Laura!

Oh and yes, that's Kate's hair. Looks good on her, no?

Tess said...

Nah, she's cute but not HOT. Her hair is too much like Kate from the Jon and Kate debacle. *shudders*

Sara Raasch said...

Hm. The announcer is pretty, but hawt? Eh.

Tere Kirkland said...

LOL, thought it was Kate, too.

Have a great weekend!

(ooh, my word verification is SYLAR. Yes, I'm a big dork.)

I was flipping through my Dashboard and was like "Is that Kate Gosselin's hair?" WHY would someone else do that to themselves? Then I saw it was Photoshop. Whew! I think she's attractive, though. Hot? Not quite sure.

Mariah Irvin said...

Too Kate Gosselin. Bleh.

Hooray for 50k!

Christina Lee said...

hahahaha love the Kate hair on the "cute" chick! 50,000 sooo impressed! wow!

Hot . . . if you gave her back her hair.

Rebecca Knight said...

Yeah, she's pretty but no Selma Hyak in From Dusk Till Dawn (which you're totally right, is the hotness yardstick.)

Also, how do you crazy ladies write so damn fast!? I love and hate you for it :P. Congratulations!!

Kelsey (Dominique) Ridge said...

Congrats on the breakthrough.

As for the head shot, I'm with you: Illusion of Hotness. There's something about her that tells me I ought to find her attractive, but she is not actually good looking.

Sarah Wylie said...

Congrats on being so close to 50K. Brilliant!

When I saw the picture, my heart ached for the Big 10 Network woman. No-one deserves to have Kate Gosselin's hair subjected on them. No-one.

But I agree that there is a difference between cute and hot. And she's the latter.

Have an awesome weekend you two!

PS: I'm a fan of the new title!

Sarah Wylie said...

Oops, I meant former.

Sherrie Petersen said...

When I saw the picture I thought it was Kate (+8). Not hot.

Congrats on all the writing. Very impressive!

Kerri said...

She's peppy cute, not hot! Hot is Sophia Lauren or the demon girls on Supernatural.
Congrats on the 50. It's bittersweet coming to the end. But there's always revisions =)

Oh, now I must come back and see the sister takeover.

And my conversation with hubby would be:
Hubby: Man, she's hot.
Me: ROWR!!! *hiss*

Yes, I can be a psycho female when needed -- with claws.

Okay, this is sad, but I watch the Big 10 network! Yeah. I love football and have been known to scream bloody-murder every Saturday there's a UofMichigan game on. Last week was pretty rough.

Do I need an intervention?

Oh, would you look at that. It's Saturday! And the Wolverines are playing tonight. Put away the breakables!

(I loath women in ruffles out on the field. Why ruffles? Why??? A sweatshirt would kill them?)

Christine Fonseca said...

LOL!...I just love your posts! As for the 50K...AWESOME!! I have been so stalled on my book - something I am trying to rectify this weekend. Wish me luck!!!

lisa and laura said...

Quick update for you guys. We were visiting friends this weekend when the hotness of the Big 10 Network reporters came up again and my husband has gone on record as saying that the Big 10 girl is hotter than Angelina. BLASPHEMY, right?

I'm completely questioning his taste level in women and yet he married me...what does this mean? Am I more Big 10 Network than Angelina? Yes, probably. I guess it's time for me to face the truth.

Blasé said...

There is nothing (emphasis nothing) "hot" about her...imho

I'm back again to let you know that this post has been nominated to receive the best "Random post" of the year award. This is for the most random post picked by ME, ME ME ME ME ME! Seriously, there's no reason other than the fact that I enjoyed the post as to why I chose it. Good luck!

Don't call this a comeback

So it’s been a minute. Or 10. Or truthfully more like 2,102,400. At least we think that’s how many minutes there are in 3 years, but let...
