Random Thoughts About Halloween...

  • The most terrifying costume trend of the evening had to be the tweens dressed like 80's workout queens. Those shiny leotards and leg warmers were far scarier than the bloody nurse or the scary clown. Am I really old enough to have kids dressing in clothes that I once wore?
  • If you're old enough to have a cell phone with a Lady Gaga ringtone, you're too old for trick or treating.
  • I always get stuck handing out the candy, but this year I was prepared. I had my down coat, a chair and Sarah Dessen's Someone Like You. Good. Times. This is my first ever Sarah Dessen book, and damn, I'm loving every second.
  • Halloween in Ohio smells like burning leaves and melted chocolate. Sitting on my front step watching all of the kids in costumes run from door-to-door as their parents reminded them to say thank you from the sidewalks was kind of amazing. Sometimes I'm sad that I've traded my three-inch city girl heels for the ballet flats of suburbia, but tonight with my wine and my book and a lawn covered with red, orange and gold leaves, I was content.
Happy Halloween!

Wish I had more trick-or-treaters. It was cold here so all the kiddies had to wear their coats over their costumes. It's the thought that counts.

I read my first ever Sarah Dessen book recently--This Lullaby. Good times.

And Coach flats? Coach? On your feet? Dayum, girl. And I thought my recent Guess shoe splurge (fabulous heels) was bad!

Just for the record, the shoes were a birthday gift from my mom. Our parents are very generous. Oh and they were totally on sale.

Jess - Your heels sound way more fun, but I figure if I'm going to wear flats I'm going to WEAR flats. Ha! These are the things that make me feel better about being boring...

Ooh, yes, Halloween was fun this year.

Glad you love the Dessen. She's the best.

We had the 80s chicks, too! Pretty sad when my look circa 1985 is now a popular Halloween costume. I still have my Molly Ringwald in the Breakfast Club boots. Maybe I'll haul them out next year.

Great post!

ahhh that does sound relaxing :-) And the tweens decked out in 80's garb is the trend here too?! My 12 year old was invited to TWO 80's parties this year.

weird.

We took my niece and nephew trick or treating and were behind four teens in four inch stilettos that clopped clopped clopped up the sidewalks. If you can wear platforms and rock thigh highs and a pair of booty shorts you should not be going door to door. Well, maybe you should, but not in suburbia.

Yeah the amount of teens we saw was funny! But I love Halloween around here- I too sat with my down coat and my Pumpkin Beer--but too much comotion to read a book-LOL!!

Ohio in the fall is beautiful. My childhood there is the reason fall is my favorite season. It's not quite the same in California.

A friend loaned me my first Sarah Dessen. Now I have to get some more :)

Don't call this a comeback

So it’s been a minute. Or 10. Or truthfully more like 2,102,400. At least we think that’s how many minutes there are in 3 years, but let...
