One Enchanted Evening...

I'm currently feeling trés virtuous because I just did a whole bunch of real work for my real job. I know, it's a little easy to forget I actually have a job, but I totally do. Well, I do at least for now...rumors of imminent layoffs make me wonder if I'll be gainfully employed a month from now, but not much I can do about that.

Anyways, I had an ulterior motive for all of my Sunday night industriousness because Laura sent me the quasi-final version of the manuscript this morning and I'm going to do everything in my power to spend Monday and Tuesday with our favorite girl detective, Kate Lowry.

Good times.

The one fabulous perk of me doing work for my actual job is that it's monkey work that rarely requires much concentration from yours truly. So, tonight while I was assembling a PowerPoint presentation with lots of meaningless statistics about the current state of our economic crisis (that will ultimately probably contribute to my job's eventual demise, talk about irony...), I watched the movie Enchanted.

Ok, so the movie itself is pretty entertaining and I sort of can't wait till my kids are old enough to watch it. I mean, seriously, who doesn't want to meet a real-live fairy tale princess? But the writer in me appreciated Enchanted on a whole different level. The writer (or writers?) who wrote and developed this film took one of the oldest stories in the world, a princess meets her prince charming and lives happily ever after, and created something completely new and fresh.

And in a way, we're trying to do the same thing with our book. We've created a modern day Nancy Drew and given her a thoroughly modern mystery. I hope Kate and her cohorts are as fun and charming as Enchanted. We'll see...

From my perspective you ladies are the princess(es) embarking on your own fairytale journey. It has been so much fun to watch you try on your glass slippers and I'm still trying to figure out if Major Agent is your Prince Charming. There's still so much to the story!

Can't wait to meet Kate.

Enchanted is just adorable! One of those feel-good movies! And I'm absolutely sure your updated Nancy Drew will reignite ND fans everywhere. Mystery's been silent for too long!

I've never seen Enchanted. I just added it to my Netflix list though. I agree with Little Ms J, you're embarking on a very cool journey! Congratulations!

Joanna - Thank you! I'd settle for as fun, but fun-er would be a real accomplishment. We'll see...

LMJ - I've always wanted to star in my own fairy tale, and yet I've always sort of known that Prince Charming was a little overrated. I mean who needs a Prince when there's a possibility of a book deal? Now that's a fairy tale I can get on board with.

Sara - Enchanted was such a cute movie! Mia is just turning 2, so I think it would be a little scary for her to watch yet, but in a few years, we're totally having a girl's night with Gisele and the gang. Ooh, and it brings me such joy when people say things like "mystery's been silent for too long!" Let's hope you're right..

Grey - Ooh, you're going to love Enchanted! You have to let me know what you think after you've watched it. It's a real fairy tale, meaning that it's totally unrealistic and loads of fun. Best consumed with copious amounts of ice cream, I think.

Shelli - The working song was adorable! I had no idea Amy Adams could sing like that!

And yes corporate America just loves PowerPoint, don't they? I'd die a happy woman if I never had to create another PowerPoint presentation for the rest of my life. Brutal.

I love that you're putting together the numbers that could possibly put you out of a job. NICE! And I agree with your last comment, book deal over Prince Charming any day, the butterflies last longer (oops, did I just say that out loud??)!

Kimberly - Scripting my own demise via PowerPoint is just fabulous, right? And yeah, my prince charming comes in five varieties, nice, very nice, good, significant and major.

Anywho... I agree with Lil' Ms J - you guys are so much fun to watch and I can't wait to read your delicious story!!!!

Don't forget. Gossip girl is on tonight. I hope it's not another %$^@ repeat. But then again, you'd be in luck b/c you could work on your edits and not have to worry about missing any Chuck-isms.

As for Enchanted, as Joanna said Kate and her crew are fun-er-er.

: )

Don't call this a comeback

So it’s been a minute. Or 10. Or truthfully more like 2,102,400. At least we think that’s how many minutes there are in 3 years, but let...
